Trista Sutter: post baby weight loss

trista-sutter.jpg
Trista Sutter, the former Bachelor and Bachelorette reality TV star, is on a mission to lose her post-baby weight. She recently gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Max, one month early by C-section due to pregnancy complications. Her pregnancy was a rough one, with Trista not only developing gestational diabetes, but also HELLP syndrome, a serious complication of preeclampsia (hypertension associated with protein in the urine) marked by elevated liver enzymes, low red blood cells and platelets. Both Trista and baby are doing fine now. The 5 foot 2 mom, lost 22 lbs so far and currently wears a size 4 and weighs 116 lbs. Her goal is to drop another 10 and get back in her skinny jeans! Britastrophy

Britney’s antics are legendary and now we hear her continuing weight struggles have taken a drastic turn as the pop star is planning on getting liposuction. It seems that Britney will not diet and continues to feed the fat with Taco Bell, McDonalds, cookies, ice cream, and jelly beans. Junk in today, lipo tomorrow. Of course, it won’t end there. Brit proves that beauty is more than skin deep.

Jane Seymour: Weight Loss

jane-seymour.jpg

Jane Seymour lost 20 lbs while training on Dancing with the Stars! Now this is one celeb that I think we can all agree doesn’t need to lose weight. In fact, Jane has been trying to put on weight recently. Now why is it that Jane Seymour feels she needs to put on weight while other celebs are having trouble losing?

Let’s take a look at her diet. Her diet consists of fresh fruits and veggies and some lean protein. She also stays away from sodas and alcohol. The secret to understanding successful weight loss is to reflect on how we evolved as a species. I can tell you, it wasn’t on trans-fats, refined carbs (white flour products), cheese, prime rib, coke, gummi bears etc. Our food consisted of mainly veggies, fruits, legumes, nuts, and occasional lean protein. Stick with this main principle and you’ll understand how to lose a lot of weight. Generally the less processed the foods you eat, the healthier and thinner you will be.

Suddenly with all the training, Jane can’t keep the weight on. I’m not surprised.

Atkins Kills

atkins.jpg
As you may have guessed, I’m not a fan of Atkins. There’s a lot of misinformation about this diet that a recent study helped clarify… and frankly validates my own beliefs about this controversial diet. First let me first say you will lose weight on Atkins and your cholesterol levels will go down. Sounds good right? Well don’t be fooled.

Consider this. Cholesterol levels will go down as a result of any weight loss period. You could be drinking motor oil to lose weight and your cholesterol will go down so don’t think for a second Atkins is healthy.

A recent study presented at the American Heart Association, corrected for this cholesterol “weight loss” lowering effect. This study involved 18 people, each of whom were put on three different diets for month, and they were carefully monitored so they had no weight loss. The three diets were: Atkins with 50% of calories as fat, South Beach with 30% calories as fat and the Ornish diet with 10% fat. Continue reading "Atkins Kills"

Rocco DiSpirito: weight loss on Atkins!

rocco-dispirito.jpg
Rocco Dispirito lost weight on Atkins!? Total heresy I say. This guy grew up on pasta! Rocco jump started his weight loss on Atkins for 1 1/2 months, losing 30 lbs. Now back to a more normal diet, Rocco limits sugar and eats lots of salads. He’s also started competing in triathlons.

For those of you who may not remember, Rocco got his “break” with the reality TV series “The Restaurant.” The series didn’t last too long, and the food didn’t frankly look that good, but Rocco still makes the rounds on QVC, the Food Network and various morning shows. Cold Water Diet

cold-water.jpg
I recently profiled Mel B, aka Scary Spice who is now strutting her stuff on Dancing with the Stars, for saying that she didn’t diet or count calories. However, it’s clear that her diet of fruits, veggies, lean meats and whole grains, is healthy and frankly looks like a typical “diet” to me. For someone who says she doesn’t “diet,” she does report using a dieting trick. Her secret is the cold water diet. Continue reading "Cold Water Diet"

Veggie Gate: Deceptively Copied?

deceptively-delicious.jpg
Well, I’m sure you’ve heard about “Veggie Gate.” Jerry Seinfeld’s wife’s new cookbook, Deceptively Delicious, has gotten a lot of buzz stemming from her recent Oprah appearance. Problem is the cookbook, which hides veggie purees in comfort foods such as butternut squash in mac and cheese, and spinach in brownies, is remarkable similar to another book by Missy Chase Lapine’s “The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for Hiding Healthy Foods in Kids’ Favorite Meals” which came out several months before in April. Not only are the concepts similar but so are the actual recipes. In addition to the ones mentioned before other similarities include grilled cheese and sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and cauliflower, pureed spinach and green eggs, and hidden carrot tacos. Jill Scott: weight gain and weight loss

jill-scott.jpg
R&B and soul singer, Jill Scott has certainly experienced the ups and downs in her weight the past year. In addition to winning 2 Grammy’s, she’s got her big Hollywood break by getting a role in the move “Why did I get married?” which began filming in February. She had just lost 28 lbs by biking prior to signing up for the movie, but in preparation for her upcoming role she was told to gain 30 lbs…. and also “wear a fat suit.”

So Jill fattened up on chocolate, cheesesteaks and milk shakes to go from size 12 jeans to size 18. She is losing the weight by walking 90 minutes and eating salads and seafood. Jill has since lost about 10 lbs and her goal is a size 14.

Eat junk food to gain weight and eat healthy to lose. Highly processed foods, such as junk food, are also almost universally high in calories. Foods that are not as processed not only are healthier but will also help you lose weight. Healthy food in, results in weight loss, health, and a slim figure out.

Ben Affleck: Weight Loss Secret

ben-affleck.jpg
Ben Affleck says his strategy to lose weight is working out, avoid late night eating and “”lay off the bread.” That sounds like good advice to me. Bread gets everyone in trouble because it’s high in calories and contains very little water. You should “eat your water” meaning that foods with a high water content will help fill you up on fewer calories. Think veggies and fruits. Additionally, if you eat more refined carbs such as white bread, it will fuel cravings by causing your blood sugar to spike and plummet. That’s why if you’re going to eat bread, whole wheat with its fiber is the way to go. The fiber adds some low cal bulk and helps curb hunger. But bread, whether it’s white or whole grain, has still got a lot of calories, so portion control is always going to be key.

Btw, I also posted on Jennifer Garnier’s diet and workout previously.
