There are plenty of alternative health treatments, diet plans and supplements that all get celebrity backing. The Kardashians for QuickTrim, Valerie Bertineli for Jenny Craig and the list goes on and on. The insurance firm Aviva surveyed 200 general practitioners to determine what health fads are ineffective and sometimes harmful. Dr. Douglas Wright of Aviva said that women are wasting their money on health fads. In addition, he said,

“What’s more worrying is that some [women] are opting for treatment trends rather than seeking medical advice – they might not be fashionable but tried and tested health routes are safer and more beneficial.”

Georgie Thompson Has New Fitness Website

Across the pond there’s another celebrity profiting from a fitness website; Sky Sports presenter, Georgie Thompson. She follows in the footsteps of other celebs like Jillian Michaels with loads of fitness products,  Tracy Anderson with a fitness website offering exercise tips and products to buy, as well as Gwyneth Paltrow who has a site with fashion, diet and exercise tips. Georgie teamed up with personal trainer Cat Dugdale to create a website for lazy girls who prefer cocktails to cardio, iamsuperchik.com.
The site already has approximately 10,000 members from the US, UK and Australia who each pay a monthly fee to get access to workout videos and exercises that incorporate household chores. One such exercise can be seen above where Dugdale is doing lunges while sweeping. Thompson said,
“It’s much harder during the winter to motivate yourself up off the sofa and out of the house to do any form of fitness. That’s why we devised a way for women to hibernate and get fit at the same time using our home training videos.”
This affordable and assessable website is cheaper than a gym membership and who wouldn’t want to bake a cake and get a good chest workout at the same time? A clean home means a fit woman.

Iron Man 2 The Workout

This week, Entertainment Tonight caught up with the cast of Iron Man 2 in an exclusive interview right on the movie set. Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow and many other cast members think that the next Iron Man installment is going to be a huge hit. During the interviews the cast also shed some light on their rigorous training for their roles in the movie. Robert Downey Jr had to work particularly hard because he had slimmed down for his role in the Sherlock Holmes movie and then put on 15 pounds of pure muscle for his role as Iron Man. He said he worked ’smartly and safely’ to gain the weight and it appears he’s a natural when it comes to exercise. He told ET,

“I love fitness, you know I love martial arts and choreography.”

Emily Blunt: Dance Boot Camp

The up and coming actress Emily Blunt, who is best known for her role in the movie The Devil Wears Prada, has been preparing for her latest film, The Adjustment Bureau. In this new flick she’ll be starring as a ballerina along side Matt Damon.  Because she doesn’t have extensive dancing skills she has signed up for dance boot camp.  She told the Herald Sun,
“I’m going to dance boot camp. I’ll never be at the same standard as a professional, but hopefully I’ll be able to do a little bit. I didn’t do ballet when I was a child. I gave it up in some sort of bratty rage, claiming it hurt my feet.”
Dancing is a great workout and stars like Britney Spears, Sabrina Bryan and Gweyneth Paltrow use dance workouts to stay in shape.  According to ShapeFit, a 155 pound person can burn 422 calories an hour while doing aerobic, ballet or modern style dancing.  It also keeps the muscles long and lean, helps with balance and it’s simply a lot of fun.
The Adjustment Bureau will be out in 2010.

Dancing Treadmill Workout

Celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson is not reinventing the wheel, she’s simply jazzing up the treadmill. For those who thought the bulky piece of gym equipment was only for walking and running, think again.

“I developed [this routine] so anyone can take my method anywhere,” Anderson told Maggie Rodriguez on CBS’ The Early Show. “I don’t like it when people use the treadmill in the same way over and over and over because that creates bulk.”

Scarlett Johansson’s Iron Man Workout

In Iron Man 2 the svelte Scarlett Johansson starred as the Russian spy, Black Widow.  Likewise, any good Russian spy with a name like that will definitely be donning an ultra sexy Lycra catsuit.  The 24-year-old told People Magazine that she did loads of training in order to prepare for the role and of course to fit into that catsuit!  She said,
“I kicked some major butt.  It was many, many, hours, days, and months of stunt training and strength training, but it’s fun because I had a goal. The goal was the Lycra catsuit.”
When asked if she was happy with the results she replied,
“Finally I was, yes,” she said with a laugh. “You put that much work into something and you put it on and you better be happy with it.”
The director of the film John Favreau was impressed with Johansson’s commitment to the role.  He said,
“She didn’t eat much, that’s for sure. She likes food, as do I, and she was definitely on a low-carb diet and training very hard. It was amazing.”
Unfortunately, we’ve got to wait another year before we get to see the infamous catsuit.  Iron Man 2 comes out in May 2010.
