Alli, “the poop and fart your way to weight loss pill,” now has a diet plan. Written by Caroline Apovian, a physician who is the Director of the Center for Weight Management at Boston University Medical Center, it’s aptly titled “the Alli Diet Plan.” I can sum up the purpose of this book by saying…
- it was created to help minimize the pill’s “treatment effects.” The Alli Diet pill works by blocking absorption of fat and that fat needs somewhere to go. Unfortunately that usually means your pants and a lot of time on the toilet. In case you didn’t see my earlier post on the Alli treatment side effects, here are some recommendations regarding these “treatment effects” taken directly from the myalli website:
“You may feel an urgent need to go to the bathroom. Until you have a sense of any treatment effects, it’s probably a smart idea to wear dark pants, and bring a change of clothes with you to work.”
“You may not usually get gassy, but it’s a possibility when you take alli. The bathroom is really the best place to go when that happens“
The Alli Diet Plan
The Alli Diet Plan is divided into 3 phases, no doubt to help minimize pant soiling and time spent in the bathroom. You start off in phase 1 in which 15% of your calories come from fat. In phase 2, 20% of your calories come from fat and in phase 3, 30% of your calories come from fat. My assumption here is that by phase 3, you’ll be less likely to experience “problems” with the Alli diet pill. The author recommends that you also take a multivitamin while taking Alli, since you’ll have trouble absorbing the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. The bulk of this book is devoted to menu plans and recipes, so if you’re looking for nutritional and diet information you’ll be disappointed. For those who are committed to the Alli diet pill and want to minimize these embarrassing “side effects,” this book can help.
You should also be aware of safety concerns raised regarding the use of Alli, over a possible link to pre-cancerous growths in the colon. Personally, I recommend that you skip the pill and these “treatment effects” entirely, and just follow a sensible low-fat diet.

Why not consume beans and get the same effect? Beans are cheaper than Alli, low in calories, and will provide one w/ the flatulence needs. At the same time, beans are high in fiber, which will make one feel "full".
How well Alli will do in the long run remains skeptical. Besides "leakage", the side effects are "unknown".
I took Xenical a couple of years ago, which is the stronger prescription form of Alli. Even though I ate a very low-fat diet, I still had the side effects they talk about with Alli. I literally carried a spray bottle of degreaser with me when I visited friends and family because I was embarassed by the orange stain that was always left in the stool.
I've heard several people talking about trying Alli and I've told them all that it just isn't worth the trouble and embarassment. Oh, and that's not to mention the cost! You not only pay for the Alli, but you also pay for new clothes because that orange stain WILL NOT wash out of them.
I took Xenical also. I loved the pill and will be buying Alli. When people ask me about it. I just say bring your wipies.
Really, wear panty liners all the time and bring your wipies! The smell can be wierd. stay to a low fat diet and do not under any circumstances pass wind when you are not on the toilet!
I found that Dr. Apovian's book The alli Diet Plan has been a great help in teaching me how to eat smart. It even has a whole section of what to eat at specific restaurants, so eating out doesn't mean you have to stray off your diet. The recipes are really good too and it's packed with suggested realistic menus. It has changed how I eat and I'm losing weight the healthy way.
why dont you people just go on a diet and work out instead of being LAZY!!!!
I am in Alli and I am not lazy. I run 6 days a week and still take the Alli pill. I lose 25 lbs and still losing. I had little to no side-effects, because I totally watch what I eat. And yes, the weight stays off because I learned how to eat correctly and execrise. So stop with the name calling. How much do you weight and are you healthy??
Really Clarissa!!! Not all of us that want to lose weight are lazy!!! Sometime it is called having kids and not having the time to workout all of the time!! So instead we need a little boost….not all of our bodies are the same. Some people have a high metabolism and some don’t! So if you don’t know what that means…..people with a slow metabolism…..well it is much harder for them to lose the weight. Try to be considerate of other people.
Why don't you try to be considerate of other people….are did you ever get taught that?
Helpful—–i cant speak for others but i so wish i had thought of that before
why don't you stop being a dumb cunt and just keep to yourself no one gives a damn what you have to say let people do what the want to do you dumb bitch!

i workout 4 times a week. Circuits, Aerotone, wateraerobics and dancing. I eat healthy and im finding it difficult to shift the weight, thought its time to try Alli .So missy who are u calling lazy?
Outstanding contribution. My partner and i allways appreciate the weightloss information on this blog.
I am going to start Alli on Monday, my husband is willing to do it with me. I will be taking it 3 times a day, but he will only be taking it once a day. I am a stay at home wife and full time online student, so any "treatment effects" can be dealt with in private. I have quite a bit of weight to lose till I am at my ideal weight to conceive, so I have the motivation, I really want a baby, I have a chubby buddy, so I am ready. I have lost about 20lbs in the last 2 months or so, but I can't get anymore off, so I thought it was time to try Alli with diet and exercise, to keep me losing. I have a bad leg which makes it difficult at times to keep exercising, but after reading reviews on here I am hopeful, thank you guys wish us luck.
feel good
i start it alli today and so far no bathrooom problem. i have 177 pounds and im over weight i supposed to be only 125 to 130 the most. let see if it works.
I started Alli 2 weeks ago and I love it, side effects and all, it's working for me. I agree with everyone else, don't pass gas if you're not on the toilet and carry wipes. I would fully recommend it!
