Ana Ivanovic: Exercise and Diet

Even professional athletes have their off days, according to former world no.1 tennis star, Ana Ivanovic. In an interview with That’s Fit, the 11th seeded player dished her fitness routines and nutritional habits.
The 21-year-old Serbian, who fell in love with the game of tennis at the tender age of 5, trains just as hard during the off-season as she would when preparing during match season. To maintain her overall fitness levels she works on her cardio with long-distance runs and intense sprints, and improves the strength in her legs (especially for the clay courts) with weight training.
“During a tournament, I’m not training as intensely as I am during a preparation period. Of course, I need to conserve my energy for matches,” she told That’s Fit. “But when I am training, I place importance on the warm-up, stretching and cool-down, to help with recovery.”
But, just like us regular folk, Ivanovic goes through days where she struggles to find the motivation to get up out of bed for her “before-breakfast” training. What does help her though is to play competitive games as part of her training – one in particular is a variation of tennis played with a medicine ball.
When it comes to her low-fat diet, Ivanovic sticks to strict eating habits. She avoids fried foods and pasta, and eats quite a bit of rice, salads, high-protein meats and fish.
“My favorite cuisine is Japanese, which is perfect because it is delicious, nutritious and not very fatty,” she said.
