Beyonce Knowles uses the Lemonade Diet

The Master Cleanser, otherwise known as the lemonade diet, has been getting a lot of press recently since Beyonce Knowles admitting to using the crash diet to lose 20 lbs for her role as Dina in the hit movie “Dreamgirls.” The former Destiny’s Child singer states she was motivated to shed the pounds “to go the extra mile.”

She reportedly told China Daily, “Back in the sixties, models like Twiggy were popular and I knew Deena would have been thin then, so even though I really love eating, it was necessary to lose weight really fast because we shot Deena at 16 and Deena at 36 two weeks apart.”

The Master Cleanser, also known as the “Master Cleanse diet”, “lemonade diet”, “lemonade fast”, “Master Cleanser lemonade fast” and the “maple syrup diet”, was popularized by Stanley Burroughs as a way to cleanse, detox and lose weight. Far from being a “detox diet” the master cleanser actually causes a build up of toxins. Please see the dangers of the Master Cleanser.

According to Beyonce, “My nutritionist suggested the only way to do that was the (lemonade diet) fast.” “I would never recommend it to anyone unless you are doing a movie and it’s necessary, and you have proper help. There are ways to lose weight healthily if you want to lose weight, but this was for a film.” Not surprisingly, she states she ” was cranky” on the diet, while those around her, on the set, scarfed down Krispy Kremes.

As a weight loss solution the Master Cleanse, and all fasting-type diets, wreaks havoc on your metabolism and your body. By going into starvation mode, your body shuts down not only using available fat stores for energy, but also breaking down significant amounts of metabolically active muscle for fuel. This slows your metabolism, making your body more efficient at putting on fat when you go off the diet. This perpetuates the yo-yo dieting pattern, as dieters go on and off diets only to regain more weight later. She adds “As soon as it was over, I gained the weight back.”

Here’s the latest photo of Beyonce, when she preformed on the CBS early show in March. Do you think she weighs more now, than before the fast?

Last year I tried this diet. I started on a Saturday, and then by Thursday I started to feel a little light-headed. I heard (Not sure if it's true) that Beyonce ate vegetables. So, I ate about four spoons of green beans (I ate about two spoons of corn also), and I felt much better. I then went back to drinking the lemonade. From Saturday to Wednesday, I did not see any results. Thursday I saw my weight drop a few pounds, Friday a few more pounds dropped off, and then by Saturday I had reached my goal. I lost 10 pounds in 7 days. What I loved most about the diet was that from the very beginning of ridding my body of all the toxins, I began to feel so good. I felt so light! lol The cleansing process is truly amazing.

It was fairly easy for me in the beginning, but I did have that rough spot around Thursday, as I mentioned above. I stayed out of the company of people eating all the time so that I would not be distracted, and I kept telling myself that "IT’S ONLY FOR A WEEK!" I filled four 20 oz water bottles with the lemonade, and took them to work with me. I drank one every two hours.

I really like the diet. My colleague on the other hand did not do so well with it. She became ill and had to go to the doctor. When she got there, her doctor inquired about her diet. He told her that the lemonade diet had stripped her of muscle mass. I guess it's a good thing she came off of it 2-3 days after beginning it. So, be careful because apparently it’s not for everyone.

I’m almost 53, I’m 5’2, and I wear a size 7/8. For about 12 years, my weight normally stayed around 128-130 lbs. Suddenly, I saw pounds creeping up on me (I had gotten up to 148 lbs) so I decided that I needed to do something before it got out of control. It’s been over a year since I tried the Beyonce’ diet, and I’m still keeping the weight down even though I eat almost any and everything. It’s almost as if my body just needed to be reset back to its normal place of 128-130 lbs. Since I did not see any weight loss until that Thursday, I plan to drink the lemonade for 3 day, using it as cleanser to rid myself of all the rib eyes I have been eating over the past years. Lol Seriously, I felt so much better when I did the cleanse/diet, and for anyone who plan to try the diet, look for any warning signs that would tell you that you need to back off. My colleague did, and it was a good thing she did!

Many blessings, and much success! :O)

I did this diet about 3 years ago. I stayed on it for a week. On the seventh day, 10 lbs was gone. It was not easy though. I turned my head when food commercials came on TV, I did not sit around other people who had food, and I told myself that it was a seven day fast, and that food would be here when I came off the cleanse, so go for it! I filled water bottles with the lemonade and took them to work with me so that I could drink them as scheduled. My weight stayed down for a long time. I just gained 7-8 lbs as of a couple of months ago. It's time for another cleanse anyway, so I'm about to go for it again so that I can at least get back to my normal weight of 130 lbs. I love the diet, and I felt so good afterwards!
