The Welsh-born actor Christian Bale loves those character roles where your heart, soul and yes even your body weight may become compromised in order to give a star performance. His latest weight loss is for the role as a drug addicted boxer in the movie, The Fighter. Let’s hope that this time Bale already learned his lesson back in 2005 when he lost 63 pounds for the film The Machinist by surviving on a diet of apples, coffee and cigarettes. He told People Magazine,
“I will adjust to what is needed. But only if I have quite an obsession for the role.”
He then shocked his body five months later by preparing for his bulked up super hero role as Bruce Wayne in the movie, Batman Begins. After losing a third of his body weight he suddenly put on 100 pounds and this was quite a physical and emotional toll on his body. He explained,
“I think that putting weight on – unfortunately I had to put it on pretty fast and it’s not really healthy doing that – is when I felt bad. I put on 100 pounds in like five months,” Bale said at the time. “You get big mood swings and everything with it.”
This extreme dieting can cause all types of problems. Last month we learned that Renee Zellweger carefully monitors her weight gains and losses when preparing for her role in the Bridget Jones installments especially once specialists told her she could suffer from long-term health problems. Hopefully Bale will do his research because a third installment of the Batman franchise is in the works and he will have to bulk up again.Celebrity Weight Loss, Christian Bale
