Diet Food Delivery Meal Plans – How Much Do They Cost?

by Megan on February 21, 2010

Over the years there’s been a significant rise in the amount of meal delivery weight-loss programs. We take a look at some of the most popular, and what they will cost your pocket…

eDiets
Each meal is freshly prepared then flash frozen and shipped to you chilled. There are weekly deliveries with no long-term contracts or commitments, but the food won’t go bad for 10 to 14 days. You can speak to registered dietitians and personal trainers telephonically as well as chat to the community online. The program costs $19.95 a day ($139.75 a week, $559 a month) plus $19.95 for shipping per week. You can customize your plan with more than 100 meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack or dessert.

Healthy Chef Creations
Consisting of organic ingredients and free-range meats, you may order a week’s supply which is FedExed in a cooler. Shipping is included in the $59.95 a day, $419.65 a week or $1,678.60 a month fee. The meals, breakfast, midmorning detox shake, lunch, mid-afternoon snack, dinner and mini dessert, or planned for you but you may make specific requests. Specific calorie ranges and vegetarian requests are accommodated. Although the meals are very similar, you won’t receive exactly the same one twice in four months.

Jenny Craig
It’s not just a meal plan as it encompasses weight management consultations, over the telephone or in person, and motivational materials as well. There’s a $20 three-month trial membership; otherwise $359 for a year and the meals, which are either frozen, shelf stable or canned, cost extra. The food costs $12 to $18 a day ($84 to $126 a week, $330 to $504 a month) and you can purchase them at a centre near you. Otherwise shipping costs are $2.32 a day or $65 for a four-week shipment. With more than 80 entrees and snacks, seasonal items are introduced every six to eight weeks.

Nutrisystem
Delivered on a monthly basis, all meals are shelf stable, but you also gain access to telephonic counseling. For $369 a month for men and $333 a month for women ($18 for shipping), there are 150 meals to choose from which include breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. But you can also have your meals pre-selected for you.

Do-It-Yourself
It you prefer to create your one meal plan, Healthy Choice, Kashi and Lean Cuisine microwave meals are the way to go. The price depends on your location but shouldn’t be more than $5/meal. The meals have very small portions and calorie counts, which means you’ll need to supplement them with fruit, vegetables, soup or salad.

I have seen a lot of positive results from persons who try eDiets. They recently had a member on the Today show who lost over 100 pounds. I feel comfortable with them because they are a part of the Better Business Bureau and they have Nutrition and Fitness Experts available to help me with my plan.
