Talk show host and American Idol judge, Ellen Degeneres, interviewed with Katie Couric on the CBS Evening News this week to reveal her thoughts on love, career and even body image. The 52-year-old is obviously fit herself as we’ve seen her dance over the coffee table on her show for years but she’s tired of the double standard where men aren’t expected to look perfect but women are. She said,
“Women [think they] need to keep themselves up to look good for a man or for society. It’s not fair.”
She’s always frustrated that in society these days we confuse the words ‘beauty’ and ‘health’ and being healthy has nothing to do with how much we weigh. Instead, Ellen thinks that being healthy has to do with vibrancy and energy.
Lastly, the CoverGirl spokeswoman shared some words on airbrushing photos. She said,
“Women are looking at bodies like that and going, ‘My stomach doesn’t look like that. I’m supposed to look like that?! So they starve themselves and they work out like crazy.”
She’s right. However, she didn’t mention the fact that her CoverGirl photos get airbrushed along with the over-publicized cover shoot she did with Oprah Winfrey for O magazine. So perhaps DeGeneres needs to rethink her words. An airbrushed and unrealistic stomach is the same as an airbrushed and wrinkle-free face for a 52-year-old.
