<p>As the <a href="http://www.celebritydietdoctor.com/victorias-secret-angel-boot-camp/">Victoria&#8217;s Secret Angels</a> are getting ready for the big annual fashion show, <a href="http://www.celebritydietdoctor.com/heidi-klum-post-pregnancy-diet/">Heidi Klum</a> is also getting her body back into shape even though she is officially not walking the catwalk.  She has announced that she will be hosting the event instead but all the same she wants to look her best. The 36-year-old gave birth in early October and as can be seen in the photo above she&#8217;s already looking in tip-top shape.  She did however tell <em>US Magazine</em> that being in her late 30s and getting back into shape has been different in comparison to her pregnancy when she was 31 years of age. <span id="more-6643"></span>When asked how she&#8217;s losing the weight she responded,</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t exercise too much &#8212; I walk.  I walk on the treadmill a little bit.  I walk on the driveway.  I&#8217;m very active with the children&#8230;&#8230;But you know when you breast feed, when you eat right, you move around a little bit, that usually does the job.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>Klum did admit that she hopes to lose 20 more pounds and she has a trainer that goes to her house and they do work on the medicine ball.  When it comes to eating, Heidi isn&#8217;t one to munch on salads and chicken but she allows herself tasty foods like goulash, schnitzel and spaghetti bolognese.</p>

Heidi will need to change her diet if she wants to get back to model form. Exercise alone will not do the trick. The Goulash is great for weight loss, but she needs to say wiedersehen to the schnitzel and spaghetti.</p>

This week she opened up to <em>OK!</em> magazine about how her troubled past contributed to her unhealthy weight and how life has changed since being on the ranch.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span id="more-6636"></span>She explained that as a kid she and her mother were homeless; her mom&#8217;s addiction was heroin, and Shay&#8217;s addiction was food.  Before she entered the show her doctor even suggested gastric bypass surgery because of her morbid obesity.  But now she&#8217;s on the path to good health.  When asked about her home workouts she responded,</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m working out with a trainer and doing a lot of exercising by the pool and on the beach &#8211; even basketball drills.  My husband loves to play basketball and now I have skills so I play him one-on-one!&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>She also mentioned that she hikes and rides bikes with her husband.  Shay admits that she still slips up from time to time but she learned on the ranch that when you make a calorie mistake you have to correct it with exercise.  So if you splurge and eat an extra 500 calories one day, you need to burn an extra 500 calories in your workout.  Good luck, Shay.</p>
<p>Celebrity Diet Doctor&#8230;<br />
The advice that Shay received from the Biggest Loser about correcting overeating with extra exercise is misguided and I don&#8217;t recommend this strategy. The key is not to increase your exercise, it is to cut down the amount of processed foods you eat. Remember you lose weight with eating the proper foods, you keep it off with exercise.</p>

<p>It seems the British are eating too little. A draft report by the Scientific Committee on Nutrition says that the daily calorie intake recommended by the country’s health officials needs to be increased by as much as 16%.</p>
<p>The committee says the current recommendations of 2 000 calories for women and 2 500 for men needs to be revised as in its report it details a more accurate way calories can be burnt through physical exercise. The committee are, however, stressing that this is not a green light for individuals to go out and stuff their faces.</p>
<p><span id="more-6626"></span>Understandably we can expect the British Health Department to make a big fuss about this report, as it’s quite risky telling people they may now eat 400 more calories a day – the equivalent of a cheese burger. Luckily the report first needs to undergo a 14-week consultation period before it can be taken seriously and before new recommendations can be considered by British health officials.</p>
<p>The draft report was only released to <em>The Times</em> and <em>The Grocer</em> magazine in the UK.</p>

<p>NBC.com released a bonus scene from Week 9 of the latest season of <a href="http://www.celebritydietdoctor.com/tag/biggest-loser/"><em>The Biggest Loser</em></a>, in which the contestants were taught how to grow their own organic garden. Fresh from visiting the one grown by one of the executive chefs in the White House, <a href="http://www.celebritydietdoctor.com/michelle-obama%E2%80%99s-chef-cooks-healthy-for-the-first-family/">Sam Kass</a>, the players were all inspired to work on their own garden. The remaining contestants wanted to create their own garden as something they could leave behind for the next season’s players.</p>
<p><span id="more-6622"></span>A representative from Gro Organic met with the reality TV contestants, explaining that organic food facilitates the purging of toxins from your body, helping you to lose weight easier. Also, by growing your own organic garden you have complete control over what you cook at home and essentially what nutrients you allow to enter your body.</p>
<p>In the video above, the Gro Organic representative shows the contestants how to plant their bulbs, and as the contestants talk amongst themselves, they release that with a garden such as this they do truly have control over what they eat – as oppose to ordering a meal in a restaurant without being able to see how it is prepared.</p>

Apart from a fabulous photo shoot and interview she also did a <em>SELF</em> seven-day challenge called, <em>Why Not</em>.  The challenge took her through different activities that she had never done before, two of which were gymnastics and kayaking.</p>
<p><span id="more-6609"></span>She took a gymnastics class at the NYC Chelsea Piers sports complex and after swallowing her pride and falling down a few times she learned that it&#8217;s a great workout even if you do have to wear a leotard.  She said,</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;I left feeling strong and capable-as if I&#8217;d conquered not  only the world but the leotard too.  So  much fun and an incredible workout.  Weekly class, here I come!&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>Later in the challenge she tried kayaking with the Manhattan Kayak Company even though she&#8217;s not a &#8216;water-sports person.&#8217;  Focusing on not tipping over she forgot about her &#8216;hate&#8217; for water sports and instead got a good look at New York City from all angles and gained a fresh new perspective.</p>
<p>Be it a sport or hobby never be afraid to try something new, it will keep both your body and mind sharp and active.</p>

Even though she sports a thin frame she admits that she&#8217;s not like other starts who don&#8217;t eat but she does balance that out with plenty of exercise.  <span id="more-6603"></span>Three to four times a week she&#8217;ll do 30 minute cardio workouts at<em> Equinox</em> gym and she does body-resistance moves with her trainer to keep a feminine physique.  She said,</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Working out for me, actually it just, it&#8217;s obvious I get very stressed out with everything I do and it just kind of de-stresses it, it releases it.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>In addition, she likes to go to dance classes but sticks to the back row because she&#8217;s not too confident in her fancy footwork.  As for the diet she doesn&#8217;t limit herself from anything but she does watch her carbs.  She explained,</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;I try to limit the carbs because my trainer always tells me I&#8217;ll see results faster if I cut out the bread but I&#8217;m such a bread fanatic, the bread basket is my favorite thing for dinner.&#8221;</p></blockquote>

<p>A 4-year study by the American College of Sports Medicine, published in <em>Health &amp; Fitness Journal</em>, reveals fitness trends for the coming year. The research, conducted through global surveys, does not report on fitness fads (often exacerbated by celebrity endorsements) and instead focuses on sustainable trends that have made a noteworthy impact on the industry as a whole.</p>
<p>Childhood obesity and how to effectively tackle it will become one of the biggest focuses in 2010. This increasingly growing problem will create a new commercial market while community-based organisations will be created to help address the fact that this new generation may not live as long as their parents or grandparents.</p>
<p><span id="more-6590"></span>Sport-specific training also looks promising, as athletes will no longer remain dormant during their off-seasons, but will instead continue to work on their strength and endurance training in gyms and at commercial clubs. While serious athletes will be focusing on their off-season training, regular Joes will increasingly turn to Pilates – which could prove to be a very lucrative business for organizations and individuals who stock the specialized equipment that targets the body’s core.</p>
<p>Everyone, including the fitness industry, has been affected by the harsh economic environment, and personal trainers will have to find new and creative ways of retaining clients. Group personal training seems to be a good solution as it allows the personal trainer to work with two or three people at the same time, making economic sense to the client and the trainer.</p>
<p>Other trends include special programs for the elderly, core training, strength training as well as continuing fitness education through accredited associations and organizations, certifying fitness professionals.</p>

<p>The 34-year-old two-time Emmy award winner says the trip not only keeps her fit, but it also benefits the environment. This environmentally-friendly way to travel cuts down on the carbon-fuel emissions blamed for pollution and global warming, and with the current state of the planet, small changes like these in your lifestyle can make a difference.</p>
<p><span id="more-6587"></span>Cycling not only helps improve your balance and coordination, it’s also a great cardio workout that tones and strengthens your leg and abdominal muscles. The cardio gets your blood pumping and lungs working, reducing your risk of coronary heart disease, and if done over a period of time builds your stamina.</p>
<p>If you’re a bit heavy and are new to exercise, cycling is a good way to ease yourself into working out. You can control how fast you want to go and how hard you would like to push yourself simply by changing gears and route.</p>
<p>Getting a workout outdoors helps ease any anxiety or depression you may be suffering from after a stressful day or week and getting in touch with nature goes a long way to reconnecting with your soul.</p>

Growing up he was involved in dance and martial arts such as karate and MMA style of fighting. <span id="more-6575"></span>While on the <a href="http://www.celebritydietdoctor.com/rachel-ray-weight-gain-and-diet/">Rachel Ray</a> Show last week he revealed a bit about his martial arts and how he correlates it to his character Paul in the movie <em>New Moon</em>.</p>

<p>Meraz and Rachel Ray went on to discuss how things coincidentally become aligned and it wasn&#8217;t just a fluke that he got the part as Paul.  Meraz went on to say that it was his birthday the day of the audition and it was also the biggest full moon of the year, hence <em>New Moon</em>, and over the two weeks he was waiting to hear rather or not he got the part he often found hawks circling overhead.  Hmmm, well, so Meraz may be a mystic but we can still appreciate his martial arts-masterd physique.<br />
<em>New Moon</em> premieres November 20th.</p>

Working out should be a breeze considering their penthouse has four pools on the rooftop as well as a state-of-the-art fitness center with indoor pool.  <span id="more-6569"></span>But their latest challenge was a big surprise when celebrity trainer <a href="http://www.celebritydietdoctor.com/david-kirsch’s-holiday-season-workout/">David Kirsch</a> put them to the test.  One contestant named Alicia even said,</p>

<p>Kirsch first gave each girl some tips on where they could improve their body in certain targeted areas.  He wasn&#8217;t suggesting to lose weight but to firm up what&#8217;s already there.  They did both strength and cardio training including work like frog jumps, push-ups and weight training. It was also interesting something he said about the<a href="http://www.celebritydietdoctor.com/supermodel-bikini-workouts/#more-3130"> supermodel</a> body-type.</p>
