Gabourey Sidibe: Dieting Since She Was 6

Gabourey Sidibe, the 26-year-old star of the hotly anticipated movie Precious, revealed to Oprah on her show on Friday that she’s been dieting ever since she was just 6 years old.
The New York actress who plays the role of Clareece (a teenager who is emotionally abused by her mother and physically abused by her father) was on the Oprah Winfrey Show to drum up publicity for the movie which opens nationwide on Friday. The talk show host, who is also a producer of the movie, got the young soon-to-be star to open up about her weight and her self confidence.
“It’s something I’ve had to work at. My first diet started when I was six years old. I’ve never been a small girl. One day I had to sit down with myself and decide that I loved myself no matter what my body looked like and what other people thought about my body,” she said on the show.
It was until she was in her early 20s that she got tired of feeling bad all the time, and stopped hating herself.

For example, on his radio show Howard Stern said, “There’s the most enormous, fat black chick I’ve ever seen. She is enormous. Everyone’s pretending she’s a part of show business, and she’s never going to be in another movie.” [...]
