Gwyenth Paltrow gets her own Cooking Show with Mario Batali

I have no idea who dreamed this show idea up, but it’s so crazy it may just work. Pair up, Gwyenth Paltrow, the notoriously picky eater, and Mario Batali, the shoot from the hip food network and iron chef star who will eat anything, and throw caution to the wind by dropping this unlikely pair off in Spain on a cooking adventure. Filming for this PBS series will start in October and will have Gwyenth and Mario traveling Spain sampling local cuisines and cooking along the way. While Mario, who expertise lies in Italian cuisine, is somewhat out of his culinary realm in Spain, Gwyenth should feel right at home having spent many summers there as a child.
Gwyenth Paltrow: Diet Interrupted
While Gwyenth’s dietary preferences have ranged from Atkins to vegetarian and fish, she is currently a macrobiotic fan, whose devotees eat mainly whole grains, veggies and beans. The Spanish are not known for a vegetarian or macrobiotic sytle cuisine so the real drama will be to see how Gwyenth restrictive diet preferences are going to hold up. Athough she still doesn’t eat pork or beef she appears to be opening up her palate for the show claiming “I eat all that [Spanish] stuff. The crazy fish things, the eels, I love it all.”
I’ll be sure to tune in to see this one. Here’s a typical Gwyneth recipe to show what she is up against as she tours Spain…
Gwyneth’s Daikon, Carrot, Red Radish Pressed Salad
1/2 cup grated daikon (Japanese radish)
1/2 cup grated red radish
1 cup grated carrot
1/2 tsp umeboshi paste (umeboshi is a Japanese pickled plum)
- Grate all of the ingredients and mix with umeboshi paste. Gently press.
- Let marinade for 10 minutes. Squeeze out the liquid and serve.
