Gwyneth Paltrow is Bent on Yoga

Gwyneth Paltrow’s admirable fitness and health crusade is growing every day. One day she’s opening a gym, the next day it’s a website and now she’s supporting the non-profit organization, Bent on Learning, to bring yoga into New York City public schools. The organization’s mission is to use yoga to enhance the physical, emotional and cognitive abilities of the children who attend New York City-based schools.
Bent on Learning offers workshops for teachers where they learn how to incorporate basic yoga techniques and mind-focused training into their teaching strategies. For students at select schools, they receive weekly classes where they learn yoga postures, asanas and meditation.
Gwyneth, along with the Urban Zen Foundation and Alice+Olivia, hosted a gala which included a silent auction and a performance by the Slumdog Millionaire dancers to raise money for the organization. She told The Insider,
“I started practicing yoga 20 years ago with Eddie Stern and it changed my life, so when he asked me to come (to the gala) I felt I owe him so much,” she continues, “I think New York City public schools need some TLC, and, I think, yoga is a nice way to get centered. It is a great idea.”
