This year Heidi Klum will once again be wearing her heart on her sleeve with Diet Coke and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute to promote the national heart health awareness campaign, The Heart Truth. Heidi will also be hitting the runway in the annual charity fashion show, the Red Dress Collection Fashion Show, sponsored by Diet Coke and a popular kickoff to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.
“The Heart Truth movement is near and dear to my heart, and I’m honored once again to join Diet Coke as their ambassador for the program,” says the 36-year-old model and mother of four. “This year I want to inspire even more women and their families to make choices that promote stronger, happier and healthier hearts.”
Last year the national campaign reached out and raised awareness of women’s heart disease to nearly 70% of women in the US. That’s quite a big number considering that they only raised awareness among 34% of women during the campaign’s initiation year in 2000.
“One of the tips from NHLBI is to maintain a healthy weight,” says William White, the brand director for Diet Coke North America. “With no calories and great taste, Diet Coke is not only an excellent choice for managing calories, it also provides refreshment and hydration that helps our consumers be their best throughout the day.”
OK, so this video I purely promotional, but I think it’s sooo cute!
Celeb Diet Doc
Diet Coke = “heart health” = FAIL
Interesting that Coke, whose sugary drinks are responsible for rising rates of heart disease, obesity, cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure, is promoting “heart health.” I guess Diet Coke somehow promotes “heart health” now?
Interesting to note that research suggests that artificial sweeteners, such as those found in “diet” drinks do not lead to weight loss but weight gain. Artificial sweeteners may reset people’s taste conditioning response so that their bodies subconsciously underestimate calories associated with a sweet taste and wind up eating more!
So one of my tips to lose weight is to stay away from Diet Coke and all artificial sweeteners…
