I Want to Save Your Life – Weight Loss Reality Show

A new weight loss reality show just started at the end of April, it’s called I Want to Save Your Life. On the show, the behavior specialist Charles Stuart Platkin helps overweight people get control over their lives by teaching them how to eat and exercise properly. Similar to Biggest Loser, those who want to be on the show have to apply, but this show isn’t a contest amongst competitors. Instead, Platkin pays a surprise visit to the candidate to let him/her know they’ve made the show and he also enlists friends and family to take an active role in the person’s metamorphosis by offering support and encouragement. Platkin said,
“I spy on them first, I try to review their behaviors. It’s kind of like an intervention, and typically, it’s a bad food moment,” he continues, “It’s not too humiliate them, but many people who are overweight tend to say, ‘I don’t eat a lot,’ but it’s right there, it’s undeniable.”
Patkin then stays with the contestant for one week demonstrating good exercise and eating habits. Then for four months he/she is left to losing the weight and making these behavior changes alone. He said,
“There’s a likelihood they’ll keep it off because they are doing it where they are in life, in their own environment, with their family members’ encouragement,” he explains. “Taking somebody and putting them in a camp, that’s not the real world.”
The Biggest Loser always did seem a bit impractical because no one has time to exercise as much as those contestants do. However, it’s hard to imagine that after one week of working with a specialist that the contestant on I Want to Save Your Life would have the will power to continue exercising and eating right.
