Jessica Simpson: The Price of Beauty

by Megan on March 8, 2010

Jessica Simpson’s taken some heavy knocks in the media since photographs of her in those “mom jeans” were released. In a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey, Jessica revealed that she was actually a size 4 in those jeans! Because of the unfair criticism she’s received about her weight, Jessica and best friends Ken Paves and CaCee Cob are travelling the world and documenting the lengths women go to all in the name of beauty on the VH1 show The Price of Beauty.

On one trip to France, Jessica and friends met Isabelle Caro, a former model who suffers from severe anorexia. When the now-62-pound Isabelle first started modeling, she was told by a designer that she needed to lose 22 pounds, and that began her downward spiral. It got so bad that Isabelle was hospitalized a few years ago after slipping into a coma and almost dying. Because of this Isabelle trying to get a law passed in the French parliament that regulates models’ sizes, and that if you’re not at least a certain weight or size that you shouldn’t be allowed to model.

“It makes me very emotional because just the pressure that women feel to be thin or to be beautiful – the pressure that the media puts on women – is so unfair and so disgusting,” Jessica tells Oprah after watching Isabelle’s insert on the talk show.
