Joan Collins: Diet & Exercise Tips

The forever glamorous Joan Collins is 76 years old and she looks fantastic. She has a healthy and slim figure, great skin and an active lifestyle. This week for the Daily Telegraph she wrote an interesting and lengthy essay on beauty and health where she explained her practical approach to looking so good. Through out the essay she emphasizes the importance of getting started early in life and not waiting until later. For example, if you suntan in your 20s, smoke, and eat bad foods, it’s all going to show up later on your face.

When it comes to her own diet and exercise habits she practices everything in moderation but she also sticks to the basics and takes a common sense approach to healthy living. She wrote,

“Doing 20 minutes of stretching, light weights and floor exercises three times a week takes the same amount of time as a long coffee break = and eating a tuna fish salad, sardines on toast or scrambled eggs is surely preferable to a Big Mac or KFC.”

Collins stresses that eating right and exercising shouldn’t be obsessive but should be something natural, or second nature, just like brushing your teeth. She likes her chocolate, cookies and red wine just like the rest of us, but will only indulge on occasion. Her analogy about treating the human body like a car is a handy way to approach dieting. She wrote,

“But I have treated my body as I would a car, only the best in petrol, care and maintenance, and I’m happy to say it seems to have worked for me.”

Essentially, if you want good mileage, or shall we say a long life, you have to put good gas/food in your body.
