The inside skinny... on Karina Smirnoff Uses Gyrotonics

Karina Smirnoff Uses Gyrotonics

The world champion professional dancer Karina Smirnoff is a regular these days on Dancing with the Stars.  And even though she gets plenty of exercise through dance she also needs to do something to keep up her flexibility and remain toned.  According to People Magazine she does this with the help of Gyrotonics which strengthens the connective tissues around the joints.  Smirnoff said,
“Gyrotonics – it’s all based on resistance and you don’t actually use weights. You actually stretch out as you tone up.”
Gyrotonics is done on specialized machines where the user does circular movements that massage the ligaments, tendons and muscle.  Likewise, it protects the joints.  Gyrotonics is great to incorporate in any exercise plan and it’s not just for dancers.  It is also good for joggers and those who like to bounce around at the aerobics studios or any exercise that puts pressure on the knees and hips.  Smirnoff also mentioned that it’s good to do when in recovery:
“It’s one of the best things if you have an injury to recover [from] – beautiful!”
