Kirstie Alley’s Weight Gain Cover Up

Kirstie Alley reportedly slimmed down to 145 lbs on Jenny Craig and flaunted her bikini bod on the Oprah show. Despite assertions from her public relations people that she isn’t an ounce over 145 lbs, the National Enquirer speculates that she hasn’t been entirely truthful when it comes to her weight. A nutritionist and fitness expert, Jonny Bowden, is quoted as saying “Kristie is way overweight.”
Insiders report,
“When Kirstie goes out in public she plays an elaborate game of trying to cover up her midsection with purses and shopping bags. But there’s no hiding it now because even her flabby arms have cellulite now.”
“I think Kirstie is playing fast and loose with the truth when it comes to her weight.”
Celebrity Diet Doctor Weigh In…
It’s obvious from these latest pics, Kirstie is in fact very much over 145 lbs. This is turning into a public relations disaster for Jenny Craig. Of course, her PR people are going to deny any weight gain. Kirsties Alley’s contract with Jenny Craig, no doubt has big bonuses tied to her weight loss… and it doesn’t look like she is going meet them. Have you called Jenny yet?

There is no easy way to change your life style and maintain your weight loss. You just have to make healthy choices and be aware of your Patterns. I have done this for over 25 years and I know . Because I HAVE to check my blood sugar at least once a day, I find it easier to stay on plan. My type 2 diab. is controled by diet alone. I was on meds. and insulin, but if you can manage to keep blood sugar as low as possible WITHOUT meds. you have a much better chance of a long and happy life. Exercise is so important, too. Come on, Kirstie. There is no magic way.

I saw Kirstie on TV with Valerie and I noticed a dramatic weight gain with that black dress. I don’t understand why she just admit it. Why lie about it? A lot of people gain some weight back after losing it. The important thing for her is to nick it in the bud and lose that excess weight before she gains it all back.

I want to know what is so awful about being what the world deems as “fat” if you keep active and take care of yourself? Why is it that we all have to suffer to look like little cardboard cutouts? At 55 years of age, I have two (yes, TWO) men in my life who have been here for over 10 years and are HALF my age. Why? According to the code of this insane world they should be running away as fast as they can. I am nearly 230 pounds, middle aged, have some wrinkles and a nose that would scare Streisand. I’ll tell you why they stay, because I’m who I am. I don’t lie, I enjoy every second I spend with them (the sex is beyond divine) and I love living. I don’t spend every waking moment worrying about calories, cellulite, or about some stupid dress size. I spend my days enjoying life. Who needs Jenny Craig or any of the other con games out there. If we all spent more time learning how to be who we are and how to truly live and love, then plastic surgery, fashion designers, weight loss surgery and diet centers would be long gone. Bring back your curves Kirstie…stop worrying about the damn bonus structure.

I did a diet plan similiar to JC and once you stop eating THEIR food — it is nearly imposible to stay thin. I quickly gained back that weight AND some. Very frustrating.

I agree with Beth’s comment; once you quite whatever diet food you’re on, you’re doomed! They’re sytematically made so that you always need more of THEIR product. I tried diet bars/ lots of protein bars and I lost ten pounds, then I stopped and put on 30!!! I myself once tipped the scale at over 200 pounds, I’ve successfully lost about 20, and haven’t put it back on. Why? Simple really-> no dieting. You must regulate your daily food intake over a decent period of time to allow your stomach to shrink down. Of course excersizing never hurts. I still would have to lose around 40-50 pounds and let me tell you this much: it sure as hell isn’t as easy as it seems to 1. do it and 2. even motivate yourself to do it. It can be overwhelming often times. So quite judging. It’s the last thing people need.

I did the jenny diet for 17 months and lost 58 pounds. I also totalled my metabolism. The last 6 months I was on it i only lost 8 pounds. I quit the end of February and gained back 18 pounds or so. But I’ve stabilized by (GASP!) eating lots of fat, meat and veggies. I mean like 2000+ calories a day. Coconut oil is my new best friend. Get a clue folks. Starving only makes you FAT!

I lost 20 pounds on JC in 11 weeks after trying to lose weight for years and years. I feel so much better! It’s been over a year now and I gained about three pounds back but returned to Jenny Craig and have lost them again. Jenny Craig taught me portion control and I am eternally grateful. I often say I should be their spokesperson because I’m a comedian and genuinely thrilled.

Diets fail. Whether or not she has gained the weight back (and that remains to be proven), so what? She’s a human being, not a number on a scale. She’s also in her 50’s, right? An age when many women put on weight regardless of how little they eat or how much they exercise.
I am SO TIRED of people being judged by what they weigh! Trust me, I know A LOT of skinny folks who are not good people, and a lot of fat folks who are wonderful, and vice-versa.

With all due respect, one of the reasons she went on the program was because people were writing and saying horrible, nasty things about her, and there’s only so much of that a person can take. Saying she is “fair game” makes her less than human. Celebrities ARE human beings.
I used to be an actress in Hollywood, and I understand the pressure to be thin (not necessarily healthy). And hormones, particularly in mid-life for women, can contribute significantly to weight gain, at least temporarily.
As a doctor, maybe you could be a bit more sympathetic? I’m not trying to be rude, I’m simply asking for some understanding for a woman who has had weight issues for quite some time.
BTW, I COMPLETELY agree with you about “diet” and processed foods!Like or Dislike:

I’m sorry, but our level of celebrity body watching has gotten ridiculous. I think this all points to the fact that these diet programs don’t work (like you said), but I also believe Ms. Alley was desperate and WANTED it to work. I don’t think she went in knowing it was going to fail.
The best lesson to take away from all this, IMO, is exactly what you are saying; the only thing you will permanently lose on these programs is money.
And I hope we can lessen our celebrity body obsession. It really does trickle down to the rest of us “mortals,” and contributes to body image issues and disordered eating.Like or Dislike:

One issue I found with Jenny Craig’s plan is the food. My mom used to be on Weight Watchers when you had to purchase the food from them, and I joined her when I became slightly overweight, although this was at the time they switched to the point value system. Her and I experience many more results when we purchased our own food at the market and tracked what we ate rather than eating the food from the meals. I can only imagine that a person would gain some weight back when no longer on those small microwavable meals. Many people have found success with Jenny Craig, but personally, I know I would not be one of them.
As for Ms. Alley, I highly doubt she’s 145 lbs but I’m sure that she is obligated through her contract to maintain a certain weight and besides, admitting that you’ve gained weight back once you’ve lost so much is no easy task for anyone!

You never had to purchase food from Weight Watchers. I tried it seven times in the early 70’s before realizing it didn’t work for me, and I’ve had a lot of friends on it over the years, and before the “points”, it was all about weighing and measuring real foods. WW has never sold meals, or enough individual products that they could possibly “make” you buy their food, unlike Jenny Craig and Nutrisystem.

It is hard to lose weight! Very hard, I know, I lost 100 pounds over a decade ago. But let me tell you, if the cameras were watching me and I was gaining weight – sheeze, that would be so humiliating. I wish her luck and I hope she does finally conquer her weight issues.

People do not realize that appetite suppressants are in all Jenny Craig and Nutrasystem foods. That is why you can eat their small meals and be satisfied.

Is that true? Jenny Craig and Nutrasystem foods contain appetite suppressants? Wow! No wonder people fail when they go off their prepared foods.
Does anyone know if Kristie is going through with her new diet program?

I signed up for the lifetime program and I’m glad that I did. Whenever my weight goes up, I return to Jenny Craig and get back on the diet for a few weeks. They remind me how to eat healthy. I’ve lost 20 pounds and feel good enough to return to Tai Kwon Do.

While weight loss clinics pitch a good game, I do wonder if processed packaged foods that many sell accumulate in our systems. These complex chemicals that preserved the very foods packaged by Weight Watchers and the like stay in our system and contribute to an overall obesity epidemic. When these chemicals are coupled with larger portion size it is a bloody disaster. People totally forgo their metabolic type and assume that everything is safe to eat, and with the advertisements of “fat girl slim” success stories, places like Nutrisystem and Weight Watchers are flooded with new clients. Factor in job searching where employers can afford to be choosy and no wonder these clinics are flooded!
But what are we putting in our mouths? Pesticide laden and processed morsels. Bare in mind these are designed to preserve the food longer! Boxed foods may have the “appropriate portion” and caloric requirement (that contributes to the day’s allotment), but they are disastrous when it comes to nutrition. We really need to test blood type and do a full metabolic panel on EACH person who wants to lose weight. Hell if this country can bomb foreign countries while letting the obesity epidemic get way out of hand, we have the money to help all lead a healthy life. After a full metabolic work up, we then have to base a diet of protein, carbs and healthy fats (fats are a necessity as they signal the brain to say “I’m full”) that are as close to natural food as possible. This makes he obesity epidemic far easier to handle then the government’s “fighting a forest fire with a fly swatter” approach! Additionally, have you noticed why our European counter parts are so slim? Perhaps they listen to their bodies instead of obsessing over their weight.
Changing a lifestyle is difficult, and I know the first hand feelings of Ms Alley. The pressures to be slim or die and old maid as no man wants a fat chick, and stay employed because discrimination against heavy people is a pain in the arse to prove in court. It is slow going but doable. I have lost 30 kg (65 pounds) so far and need to lose another 40 kg! But I am taking my time.
Here is how I do it:
Drinking more water and eliminating soft drinks (painfully hard!!!)
Eliminate sweets** (need a “go to food” ex. Strawberries in exchange for chocolate)
Eliminate processed foods (a tough one but decidedly a key to success)
Aufedersein dairy! That’s right my metabolic type (family) excelled at weight loss when that was one of the things eliminated.
Dovetailing off the last one—watch your parents! What foods made them gain/lose?
Finally? Listen to your body
We live in a day and age of comfort foods and with the slumping economy, and people who are stressed out need some comfort! But comfort can come in other forms! Kristie needs to tune out the superfluous comments and listen to herself and her physician!I am in favor of good thorough science-so lets cut the crap!

I’m in favor of good, solid science too, but no reputable scientist I know of would tell you that the things you are recommending are supported by real science. If they work for you, great, but science doesn’t tell you to give up dairy and “all processed food”. That’s just urban myth.
I also don’t understand why people always smugly suggest one substitute fruit for chocolate and other sweets. One tastes sweet and good, the other is sour and horrible. I personally would rather starve than eat fruit. If it works for you, great, but the same approaches just don’t work for everyone, and each of us needs to find what works for us, rather than following someone else’s rules.
As to following my parents, who were thin throughout their adult lives, they ate a diet heavy on dairy, meat, and processed foods, by today’s standards (and in those days, when everyone was thinner, so did most people). That probably isn’t very healthy, even if it didn’t make you fat. However, they didn’t eat between meals – something I’ve also been trying to follow.

If people would use their common sense, they would realize that Jenny Craig & NUTRA SYSTEM contain appetite suppressants. Try eating a lean cuisine (same amount of food as Jenny Craig) and see what happens. Hungry?

Why don’t these people realize that it is all about the exercise. You can’t just exercise until you get to a certain weight and then go back to old habits. You need to do it every week for the next oh say forever, or you will gain weight.

[...] Kirstie Alley may be forever struggling with her weight but she’s definitely making a business out of it and making plenty of money. It all started a few years ago when she lost weight on Jenny Craig. Even though she gained the weight back she still received a huge payment for endorsing the product. Then she gets her own reality show, Kirstie Alley’s Big Life, which will chronicle her current weight loss journey and of course she will get a paycheck for that. And now we discover that she’s launching her own weight loss company that will cater to the ‘average overweight American.’ Even more money! She said that with her magic ‘elixir’ she has already dropped 20 pounds in the past eight weeks. She said, “Im not a doctor or a nutritionist – I’m a regular person like you who has been struggling with her weight and searching and praying for a weight loss program to end that forever.” [...]
