Maria Sharapova: Diet and Workout
Maria Sharapova tells Shape Magazine this month that “I never diet because I need to be strong.” The Wimbledon and US Open champ, eats 3 large meals a day and snacks on fresh fruit with ham or other lean protein. She also won’t turn down sweets if she craves it.
“The moment someone says I can’t have something, forget it. I want it even more. If I crave a cookie, I eat it.”
Maria Sharapova: Workout
In addition to playing tennis everyday, Maria meets with her trainer, Javier “Capi” Capitaine, twice a day for high-intensity cardio intervals and stength training. He explains:
“I always try to vary the intensity, duration, and types of moves Maria does to keep her challenged.”
Maria’s favorite off the court activities are biking and yoga. She likes to add variety to her fitness activities and lately has been into a salsa dance class called video-sync, which focuses on core work to build strong abs. She says “I love it. It’s so energetic and fun.”
Celebrity Diet Doctor Weigh In…
Maria’s calorie requirements are obviously higher because of her tennis career so her diet can be more forgiving in the calorie department. However I doubt she is subsisting on junk food. Athletes at this level are even more vigilant about their diet and health since it can make the difference between champ and runner up. So while she claims she doesn’t diet, rest assured she is eating healthy foods to fuel her championship ways.
