“I’m trying really hard to get in ‘TV shape,’ as I like to call it. You’ve got to be healthy and toned, but you’ve got to be a little on the skinny side because the camera does add pounds, and people are very harsh,” says Melissa Joan Hart.
The star has been in television since she was a teenager, starring in shows such as Sabrina The Teenage Witch and has an upcoming show called Melissa and Joey that she is trying to get in shape for. For that, she has turned to a local rowing club rather than hitting the treadmill. Hart, who prefers the great outdoors, says that it provides a full body workout.
In addition to her workout regimen, Melissa, a busy mother of two, tries to eat healthy.
I’m doing my protein shakes again, doing fish and chicken and veggies, and really trying to avoid the starches and dairy,” she says.
She says that this is her chance to encourage healthy eating habits for her boys as well. Instead of eating ice cream, a favorite of most kids, she feeds them Tree Top applesauce.
Melissa is also teaming with Tree Top to encourage fans to submit recipes using Tree Top apple sauce or apple juice for a chance to win a trip to New York to attend the Food Network New York City Wine and Food Festival. She hopes it will encourage people to cut fat out of their diets as well.
