At age 56, the popular Today show host Meredith Vieira has been helping to keep the NBC morning news program going strong by going above and beyond what one might expect of her. She works so hard that the self described night owl sometimes wakes at 1AM just to prepare for the segments she will be doing the next morning. Of course, all that sleep deprivation did eventually catch up with her.
“This is a high-energy show, and I can pull it off, but I was really feeling it,” she says. “I was gaining weight and feeling depressed.”
That is why, with the help of a nutritionist, she began a new diet and exercise program designed to provide more energy and increase stamina. The nutritionist put her on a detox diet lasting 28 days and, while on this diet, she was not allowed to consume sugar, wheat, gluten, alcohol, or caffeine. Her menu mostly included fish and salads. As for the exercise routine, she began lifting weights to build more calorie burning muscles and maintained a slow-burn exercise routine.
“I want to look healthy, be strong, and feel good about myself,” Vieira says.
After losing 10 pounds with her new routine, she’s certainly accomplished that and it didn’t take long before she started “feeling better” either.
