Padma Lakshmi: 10 Tips for Weight Loss and Health

Now that Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi is pregnant, she’ll probably have to work extra hard to get rid of the baby weight once she gives birth as well as the pounds she packs on during the reality TV show. Padma spends quite a lot of time in the gym and on the treadmill trying to keep as fit as possible while pregnant, but is nonetheless realistic when it comes to her weight, her job and her of her body expectations.
Recently the 39-year-old TV host shared her 10-point plan to get her body back with Glamour magazine:
1. Avoid dangerous starvation diets and cleanses by being realistic about the amount of time it’ll take to lose weight.
2. Food is pleasurable and denying yourself that pleasure will lead to binging. Don’t feel guilty about indulging once in a while.
3. Eat breakfast within the first hour of waking up to jump-start your metabolism.
4. Reduce your alcohol intake because it’s laced with calories.
5. Keep your metabolism running high during the day by eating two healthy snacks daily.
6. It’s easier to control your calories and the amount of fat in foods when you cook at home (instead of getting takeout).
7. Adding spices to your meals makes you feel as if you’re eating a really scrumptious meal, reducing your temptation to want something “extra” afterwards.
8. Eating loads of veggies that are high in fiber help you feel fuller quicker and for longer.
9. Single-serving sweets like ice-cream sandwiches are portion controlled, preventing you from a too-big portion of dessert.
10. Never overlook the power of cardio when trying to lose weight and become healthy.
