Padma Lakshmi: Slim Down Tips

Host and judge of television’s Top Chef, Padma Lakshmi, would be forgiven if she were a “generously proportioned” woman. But the 38-year-old actress and cookbook author doesn’t let her job control her size – well not entirely at least.
While filming the reality TV show, the former model usually puts on 10 to 15 pounds every season, and keeps two dress sizes on set to accommodate her expanding waistline.
“I just try to cut myself a break – I know I’m going to gain weight,” Lakshmi told the New York Times. “In my job, I eat the most when I’m working the most.”
And boy does she eat! Lakshmi has to taste 16 or 17 bites of every dish that’s prepared for each episode, every day for 5 weeks. To add insult to injury, because the show is a competition, the contestants often add extra fattening ingredients to make their dishes taste the best.
The 5-foot-9 beauty, however, does try to squeeze in a workout whenever she has free time during filming. But she also carries a jump rope in her travel bags to slow down the inevitable weight gain.
When the show has wrapped, Lakshmi immediately begins a detox diet, cutting out red meat, alcohol and cheese from her diet. She also gets back into her daily 90-minute workout by climbing stairs, working on her upper body and boxing.
