Fitness Trends for 2010

fitness trends for 2010

A 4-year study by the American College of Sports Medicine, published in Health & Fitness Journal, reveals fitness trends for the coming year. The research, conducted through global surveys, does not report on fitness fads (often exacerbated by celebrity endorsements) and instead focuses on sustainable trends that have made a noteworthy impact on the industry as a whole.

Childhood obesity and how to effectively tackle it will become one of the biggest focuses in 2010. This increasingly growing problem will create a new commercial market while community-based organisations will be created to help address the fact that this new generation may not live as long as their parents or grandparents.

Heather Tom says the new fitness trend on the West Coast is cycling. The daytime drama actress and star of the Bold and the Beautiful has decided to cycle the 26-mile return journey between her home in Glendale, California, and the film studio every day.

The 34-year-old two-time Emmy award winner says the trip not only keeps her fit, but it also benefits the environment. This environmentally-friendly way to travel cuts down on the carbon-fuel emissions blamed for pollution and global warming, and with the current state of the planet, small changes like these in your lifestyle can make a difference.

Alison Sweeney isn’t just an actress on Days of Our Lives and the host of The Biggest Loser, she’s also a wife and mother of two children. This week, she told OK! Magazine readers how she manages to juggle it all and stay fit. First off, she mentions that being healthy isn’t just about being skinny and feeling beautiful, but it’s also important in order to have a long life with family and friends. She explained that by changing her mindset, it gets her motivated to exercise because she wants to be a role model for her family and of course be with them for as long as possible. She said,

“That helps me make the choice on a Sunday morning to get up at 7, and go for a run ……. then then when I get home, I’ll bring fresh fruit from the Farmer’s Market and surprise everybody.”

Mya’s DWTS Workout


Kelly Osbourne is not the only one who lost weight during the current season of Dancing With The Stars. The R&B singer Mya has also lost 11 pounds and a dress size while on the show. She originally lost 17 pounds but then gained back a few pounds of muscle as she continued training. So now the petite star weight only 127 pounds. This week, she told the readers of OK! Jenna Elfman: Pregnancy Diet

Likewise, since she’s been pregnant once before she knows how to balance exercise, diet and cravings in order to keep healthy and fit while pregnant. At a charity event over the weekend she told People Magazine that she is past the cravings phase and now she just likes to eat in general. She jokes,

“I like stuffing food down my face.”

Tess Daly: Post Baby Diet

The Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly has a stunning post-baby figure. She gave birth to her youngest daughter in May of 2009 and just six months later she’s doing a modeling campaign for La Senza lingerie. (see photo above) The 38-year-old claims that she didn’t follow a strict diet and nor was she a workout fanatic at the gym, instead she gave the old ‘high metabolism’ monologue that many celebrities like to tout. She told Heat Magazine that she keeps herself busy and never sits down to relax,

“I’m always running around, and I’ve got a fast metabolism.”

She also mentioned that she currently doesn’t go to a gym but she hopes to start soon. She will however do yoga and go swimming. Daly will soon be launching her own skincare product called, Daly Body.
