Skinny Bitch Review

skinny-bitch.jpg
If you can get past all the shock-jock language such as - you’re a gluttonous pig - you need to exercise you lazy shit - don’t be a pussy - you’ll find that Skinny Bitch offers some good dietary advice. I frankly wasn’t expecting much in the way of sound nutritional advice from the authors who are proudly skinny bitches themselves. Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin are both former models, with Kim holding a degree in holistic nutrition. Continue reading "Skinny Bitch Review"

Complete Protein Myth

veggies.jpg
I’m sure you’ve heard it before, animal protein is “complete” and plant protein is “incomplete.” Protein is made up of amino acids and 9 amino acids are considered “essential” because they cannot be synthesized by your body and must be derived from the food you eat. Animal protein has been referred to as “complete” because it contains all 9 essential amio acids. Because it is widely believed that plant protein is deficient in some essential amino acids, it has been referred to as “incomplete.” Continue reading "Complete Protein Myth"

Rachael Ray is a Dunkin Donuts Sellout

rachael-ray.png
Anthony Bourdain, the rebel chef and author of Kitchen Confidential, outs Rachael Ray for her endorsement of Dunkin Donuts in next month’s Outside Magazine.

“She’s got a magazine, a TV empire, all these best-selling books - I’m guessing she’s not hurting for money. She’s hugely influential, particularly with children. And she’s endorsing Dunkin’ Donuts. It’s like endorsing crack for kids.”

Bourdain adds: “I’m not a very ethical guy. I don’t have a lot of principles. But somehow that seems to me over the line. Juvenile diabetes has exploded. Half of Americans don’t have necks. And she’s up there saying, ‘Eat some [bleeping] Dunkin’ Donuts. You look great in that swimsuit - eat another doughnut!’ That’s evil.”

A representative for Ray had this to say, “Anyone who knows Rachael and watches her on TV is aware she promotes balance and moderation, instead of living life in extremes. Her work addressing kids’ and families’ nutritional needs speaks for itself so we respectfully disagree with Anthony’s opinion.” Continue reading "Rachael Ray is a Dunkin Donuts Sellout"

Kirstie Alley’s Weight Gain Cover Up

kirstie-alley.png
Kirstie Alley reportedly slimmed down to 145 lbs on Jenny Craig and flaunted her bikini bod on the Oprah show. Despite assertions from her public relations people that she isn’t an ounce over 145 lbs, the National Enquirer speculates that she hasn’t been entirely truthful when it comes to her weight. A nutritionist and fitness expert, Jonny Bowden, is quoted as saying “Kristie is way overweight.” Continue reading "Kirstie Alley’s Weight Gain Cover Up"

Dr Phil McGraw: Weight Gain

dr-phil-mcgraw.png
Author of the Ultimate Weight Loss Solution and self described weight loss expert, Phil McGraw is reported to be 250 pounds and 6 foot 4 inches which officially puts him in the obese category. The National Enquirer dishes out some tough love for the “say it like it is” psychologist and self-improvement guru.

“TV Shrink Dr Phil wags his finger and scolds the overweight guests on his talk show. But these days, he might want to start listening to his own advice. The 57- year old Oprah protege preaches that extra flab is a choice. If you’re fat, he says, you have no one to blame but yourself. Now, say insiders, it’s time for the Hollywood doc to get real himself.”

Biggest Loser Hall of Shame

chips-ahoy.png
During an exciting episode 5 of the Biggest Loser Season 4, I couldn’t help but notice the product placements. Exhibit one is for Nabisco 100 calorie snacks that were peddled by trainer Bob. Sorry Bob, but these snacks are junk food and will cause weight gain, despite the smaller serving sizes. These new smaller portion sizes are a convenient way for food manufacturers to jump on the “weight loss” bandwagon and pay lip service to improving people’s health. But junk food in smaller portion sizes is still junk food. Continue reading "Biggest Loser Hall of Shame"
