Paul McCartney Promotes Meat-Free Days
For years Paul McCartney has been an avid vegetarian and has been vocal about not only its health benefits but also its benefits to the environment. Even his ex-wife Heather Mills is a vegan and she too has done her part to promote vegetarianism. This week, McCartney will speak before the European Parliament to urge consumers to fight global warming by giving up meat at least once a week. He’s not telling people to become strict vegetarians but to instead incorporate meat-free days into the weekly diet. He told Parliament Magazine,
“By making a simple change in the way you eat, you are taking part in a world changing campaign where what’s good for you is also good for the planet.”
As the Copenhagen summit on global change is fast approaching, McCartney is urging members of the summit to consider a sustainable food policy that would help reduce global CO2 emissions. He said,
“A lower meat diet could see greenhouse gases reduced by as much as 80 percent.”
The former Beattle starts his Eureopean concert tour this month and he is campaigning for ‘Meat-Free Mondays’ throughout the tour. What a great idea. Three cheers for Paul McCartney; hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray!
