The inside skinny... on Post-Run Diet

Post-Run Diet

If you’ve just come back from a run, you’re going to need to rebuild the electrolytes lost when you worked up a sweat. Leslie Bonci, a nutrition and fitness consultant to Runner’s World magazine, shares 3 simple ideas for what you should eat after your run.

“Sooner is better than later,” Leslie says in her video for the fitness magazine. “Ideally if you can consume something within 15 minutes after you run, you’re going to be on your way to a quicker recovery, which means you’ll be better when you go out there to run the next day.”

The first of Leslie’s ideas is (surprisingly) low-fat chocolate milk. It’s the simplest of her ideas and it contains carbohydrates, protein and it tastes good.

The second meal idea is more elaborate – a brown rice pudding with banana. If you have rice leftover from dinner, simple add milk, sweetener, cinnamon and a chopped banana and voila!

The third meal idea is an English muffin, a slice of cheese and a scrambled egg. The protein and carbohydrates will help your body recover quickly as well as keep you nourished.
