The inside skinny... on Rachel Hunter is the new Slim Fast spokesperson

Rachel Hunter is the new Slim Fast spokesperson

rachel-hunter.jpg

Super model Rachel Hunter was a little surprised when she was contacted by Slim Fast to be their spokesperson. Her reaction was “do I look fat?” according to People magazine. Slim Fast reassured her that they weren’t looking for a Kirstie Alley type weight loss, but wanted her to head their campaign aimed at women looking to drop 5-20 lbs. Slim Fast sees her as a women who “can inspire. She’s not a size 2, nor does she aspire to be.”

Rachel admits, “As I’ve gotten older, I can’t eat as much as I used to.” Looking to lose a couple pounds Rachel adds, “There’s no target weight, but I’ll know when I get there. I want to feel sexy and hot!” Her calorie cutting plan includes 190-calorie slim fast shakes for breakfast and lunch, and then a sensible dinner.

Slim Fast calls their partnership with Rachel an effort to promote “healthy weight loss.” Interestingly you won’t find any ingredient info on the Slim Fast website… perhaps it’s for a reason. Slim Fast products are full of sugar, trans fats and enough artificial ingredients to keep a chemist busy. Remember that Rachel is a hired gun, and I doubt a women who is knowledgeable about nutrition would actually consume this stuff…

I knew Slim Fast contained a lot of artificial ingredients, but not transfat and fructose. Now I wonder if there is any transfat in the Ensure products. These are typically given to patients who are undernourished.

Slim Fast’s website is quite disturbing. They’ve got the words, “Doctor’s Orders”, “dietitian”, “healthy eating” “Meals on the Go”. Someone who is naive can easily be fooled into thinking that Slim Fast is a nutritious drink.

What is even more alarming is how Slim Fast names its site.

You could also highlight maltodextrin in the ingredients list. It’s the same as glucose which is a lot worse (GI & GL wise) than ordinary sugar.

Fructose is FRUIT SUGAR, which is NOT bad for you. You need to be more worried about titaium Dioxide, polyethelene glycol, aluminum chlorohydrate, modified corn starch( which is NOT corn starch). These chemicals are in deodrant, cleaning products and YOUR food.
