Ross Matthews: Weight Loss Part II

Ross Matthews, the reporter who started out as ‘Ross the Intern’ on Late Night with Jay Leno, is now the reporter on The Insider dishing out the latest gossip on Hollywood celebrities. In 2007 he was on Celebrity Fit Club and lost 50 pounds. Now, in 2009, he is still in good shape but has put on some weight as of late. He recently told The Insider viewers about his weight loss journey and how he hopes to again get back on track. He said,
“Up until recently, I was fat all my life,” says Ross. “Growing up fat was sort of like an identity, you know what I mean? That’s who I was and I used it to my best ability in that I made it funny. I was always known growing up as the funny fat guy. I just became used to that.”
While in college, Ross climbed up to 230 pounds.
“Inside you think, like, ‘I can’t believe I’m fat.’ Every once in a while I would look in the mirror and be like, ‘Oh my God, you’re the fat guy.’ But that’s not how you feel inside.”
When Ross was first asked to appear on Celebrity Fit Club he turned it down, but then after reflecting on the fact that his father died at a young age he decided to accept.
“It was time for me to get healthy. When I started ‘Celebrity Fit Club,’ I was 214 pounds and at a complete loss of how to be a healthy grown-up. And I know I’m not the only one. [I was] scared out of my mind.”
While on the show he took advantage of everything the show had to offer in terms of a fitness trainer and nutritionist and lost 50 pounds.
“My outlook on the world improved when I lost weight because I liked myself more, I wasn’t ashamed as much,” he explains. “I understand how people would think if they’re big that maybe they don’t deserve stuff, they don’t deserve to be happy, they don’t deserve to be loved, you know? I get that. But we all deserve that. We all deserve to feel like we are worth it. And getting there was the most important journey I have ever been on.”
In 2009, he has put on a little weight so he’s enlisting the help of his viewers. He plans on logging his exercise and diet plan journey on The Insider and he hopes that others will join him. We’ll have to stay tuned to see how he does.
