Run To Help Haiti

If you’d like to help the citizens of Haiti who are trying to piece back together their lives after the devastating earthquake ripped apart their nation on January 12, you can put your feet on the pavement and your hands in your wallets.

Trish Short: Sponsor this ultra marathoner as she runs 30 miles on January 30 at the Firstenburg Community Center in Vancouver to raise money for the Three Angels Children’s Relief, which supports an orphanage, school and medical clinic in Haiti. The charity also helps brings orphans to the U.S. after the tragedy.

Running Free and Runners Den: Runners can participate in these two training runs on January 30 in Toronto or Hamilton. Although there’s no entry fee, runners are welcome to pay what they can.

Miami marathon and half marathon: Runners in the January 31st event are invited to join Team World Vision by donating a donation equal to or greater than the entry fee. Team World Vision has been helping Haiti since the 2008 hurricanes but are increasing their aid.

The Chevy Chase Running Company: This six-mile race on February 6 asks all runners to donate $5. The money will be giving to the American Red Cross.

The Auburn Opelika Running and Track Club in Alabama: Bring new or gently-worn T-shirts and running shoes to the five-kilometer run on February 13 for Save the Children, who will send the items to Haiti.

Run for Haiti: This fun run in Reston, Virginia, on February 13 hosted by Potomac River Running will see all race proceeds donated to Haiti relief efforts. The organizers are also requesting that runners bring a T-shirt which will be taken to Haiti by 800m Haitian Olympian Moise Joesph.

New York Road Runners and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation: Race fees and all donations will be given to New York City’s Haiti Relief Fund who will pass the aid on to reliable relief organizations.

Keep Haiti in your hearts on Valentines Day! Instead of a traditional card, I’ve posted a photo of my better half on the Haiti: Wall against Hunger – at http://wall.wfp.org
