American Idol host, Ryan Seacrest, teamed up with celebrity chef Jamie Oliver to produce a show on obesity in the US. The show, Food Revolution, follows Jamie in Huntington Virginia as he tries to persuade the people of the town to eat right and get healthy.
Last week, Ryan appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show to promote their new six-part series. He explained to Oprah that one reason he was interested in doing the program is because he was an overweight child and knows what it feels like to be the fat kid. He was very self-conscious about his physique and didn’t like the arrival of spring because that meant swimming. He explained,
“I didn’t like spring because spring break was imminent. And I didn’t want to go to the pool. I would swim with my t-shirt on. And when you have that feeling as a kid, that lives with you for a long time.”
In the picture above you can see how Ryan looks as a child in the screen behind him and Oprah. Let’s hope that more celebrities jump on the health bandwagon and get serious about health and nutrition in schools and getting parents educated on the issue. Food Revolution is an eye-opening series and Jamie and Ryan should be commended for their efforts.
