Sarah Palin Diet and Workout

Sarah sure made a grand entrance at the RNC with her rousing speech. I’m going to keep politics out of this post, but I will say Sarah can deliver a great speech under enormous pressure. America has wanted to learn more about this Governor of Alaska since she burst onto the national scene with her “first dude” husband and growing family. Sarah spoke with the WSJ recently and talked about her unique Alaskan diet and lifestyle…

Sarah reveals

“My family and I eat a healthy diet heavy in wild Alaskan seafood, moose, caribou and fresh fruit”

She also admits to being a breakfast skipper “I know it’s the most important meal of the day but I still haven’t bought into it. I hate to admit it, but a skinny white-chocolate mocha is my staple in the morning.”

Sarah we learn is a big time runner. “Conventional running is my sanity” she says. She was running 7 to 10 miles a day before her pregnancy and switched to aerobics classes at her local gym when she became pregnant. She reportedly is back up to 3 miles a day.. but who knows now in the final sprint to the national election? She also reveals that she gets quite the upper body workout by snowmobiling with her husband Todd, “It’s the best upper body workout you could ever have”  Todd is btw, a four time champion of the Iron Dog race… sounds like the famous Iditarod dog sled race except on a snow machine.

Celeb Diet Doc…
I’m impressed she finds time to get the running in with her incredibly busy schedule… great for her! Although you may get the impression from this blog that I’m a vegan, I’m not. We evolved to consume some animal protein. Straight vegans, for instance, are at risk for vitamin B12 deficiency and should supplement their diet so they are not missing this important vitamin. Deficiencies in B12 result in anemia and neurological symptoms such as fatigue, depression, unsteady gait, and impaired touch sensations. It’s just that many Americans consume as much as 40% of their meals as animal protein and this is not healthy. Sarah’s diet of wild game and fish is no doubt healthier. Wild sources of game and fish are leaner sources of protein compared with conventional grain-raised cattle and poultry and also contain high concentrations of anti-inflammatory Omega 3 fats. So yes have some animal protein.. or moose meat.. just not too much!

I have my own personal opinions about her, but for the sake of staying on track with the dieting subject, I must say that I do envy her availability to such fresh fish on a constant basis (at least while she was living in Alaska – not currently on the campaign trail).

I absolutely love fresh fish and unfortunatly do not live nearby the ocean to receive it at it’s best. We do plan a move in the next five years or so to a town (in another state actually) nearby the ocean, and I simply cannot wait to visit the local fish markets and purchase fish that has been caught that day and has not been subject to a grocer’s freezer.
What a wonderful healthy addition to any diet!
