The inside skinny... on Serving Portion Distortion

Serving Portion Distortion

Which black dot is bigger?

Both black dots are the same size! The black dot on the right represents how a serving looks on a large plate, while the black dot on the left is the same serving portion on a smaller plate. Large plates and serving containers make serving sizes look smaller which tricks our brain into eating more. This is why smaller plates could help you gain a smaller waist.

This visual teaser is part of the ingenious work of Brain Wansink, a professor of marketing at Cornell, who studies how psychological cues can cause us to overeat.
