Slim-Fast Recalls Millions of Diet Drinks

If you’ve got a Slim-Fast diet drink in your cupboard, you’d best chuck it out. Unilever is recalling all its Slim-Fast diet drinks and shakes because the consumer product company fears the dietary supplements may be contaminated with bacteria that could cause mild food poisoning.
The complete recall, however, only pertains to the liquid supplements packaged in cans or boxes and not the powered shakes or bars, but it includes about 10 million Slim-Fast products regardless of their UPC number, best-by date, flavor or late.
Unilever discovered the problem when quality tests picked up the presence of Bacillus cereus, a non-life-threatening toxin that causes diarrhea and nausea. According to ABC News, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the toxin is “not severe” and “usually self-limiting”, but you should still see a doctor if you’re not feeling well.
“The company is in the process of identifying and correcting the production issue,” the official recall notice says, “and will resume production and shipment of the product when the issue has been addressed and corrected.”
If you do have one of the affected products, Unilever urges you to call 1-800-896-9479 for a refund.
