Two-time Grammy award winner Melissa Etheridge was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005. After surviving a lumpectomy and five rounds of chemotherapy and radiation in addition to working on stage through out the whole ordeal, Melissa is now healthy and thriving. She recently spoke with Self Magazine about how she kept a positive attitude during her treatments and how her diet has changed since beating cancer. These days, her diet is all about nutrition and being aware of what goes in her body. She is sure to take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar each and every day and she also eats one salad a day and she no longer eats refined sugar. She explained,

“At this point, I really don’t want to to eat leafy greens, but I know I need to put this stuff in my body to feel good. I stopped eating refined sugar….once you get past the cravings, you can leave it behind.”

Later in the interview Melissa said that while she was going through chemo she learned that her body didn’t define her, but instead it’s what’s inside the body, the ‘amazing spirit’ and what’s around it.

Celeb Diet Doc..

The most effective anticancer foods are cruciferous veggies: bok choy, arugula, watercress, broccoli, cabbage and kale. These are the anti-cancer all stars because they contain powerful organosulfur compounds. In addition to ditching the refined sugar, I would also get rid of dairy and dial down the animal protein – both of which have been linked with increased rates of cancer.
