“Being 309 pounds was a crazy experience,” the 20-year-old accounting student told Al Roker on the show. “It held me back from everything; fitting into class seats, dating, and just living my life. I’m really so glad that I’m not there anymore.”

Biggest Losers Use BodyBugg

biggest losers use bodybugg

The contestants on one of TV’s biggest reality shows, The Biggest Loser, keep track of their weight-loss by calculating how many calories they’ve consumed and how many they’ve worked off with the bodybugg.

The GoWear fit Lifestyle and Calorie Management System tracks how many calories you’ve used during your day or workout by recording your core body temperature, the fluctuation of this temperature, the amount of steps you take, your overall amount of physical activity, your sweat rate and your axis of motion. The device tracks how many calories you’ve consumed by means of an online food diary – you need to enter the food you eat. Once you’ve downloaded the various data to your computer from the little black box, the software will then calculate your total calorie expenditure.

Tara Costa Blogs for Biggest Loser

tara-costa-blogs-for-biggest-loser
Tara Costa won the Biggest Loser reality series in season seven after dropping 150 pounds. She still looks phenomenal, she’s been training hard for the New York City marathon and now she has a new gig as the weekly blogger for the new season of the Biggest Loser.  Costa is excited for the new contestants as she remembers what it felt like to get off the airplane and live in a reality series world over those months on the show. She wrote,

“I am sure that some (if not all) of the contestants will feel the same way I did. When you get the final notice that you are indeed going to L.A. to meet with producers, casting directors and executives, you feel like you have been given a second chance, that things will be better this time around and that you will truly make the changes your life so badly needs.”

Biggest Loser Interactive Video Game

biggest-loser-interactive-video-game

The Biggest Loser franchise is getting bigger each season.  DVDs, books, equipment and now an interactive video game that actually sounds really impressive.  Last week Biggest Loser unveiled the The Biggest Loser video game in NYC where past contestants and the media got to try it out.

Basically, the user chooses a 4, 8 or 12 week fitness program.  He/she first enters data such as name, age, weight, height, and weight loss goal.  Keep in mind that the game was designed by The Biggest Loser doctors and nutritionists so if you’re wanting to lose 100 pounds in 12 weeks, it’s just not going to happen because that isn’t healthy nor is it a long term fix.

Biggest Loser Tara Costa Trains for Marathon

Tara Costa, the Biggest Loser winner from season 7 is still in tip-top shape and she now plans to train for the New York City Marathon that will take place on November 1st.  Recently, she told People Magazine what she has done since leaving the reality series to maintain her weight.  As for her workout routine she explained,
“At first I was very skeptical of allowing myself to go out with friends on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I knew that on Saturday mornings I would be doing my long jog with my workout buddies and I didn’t want to jeopardize feeling sluggish. I make choices now — some days my workouts are far more intense than the average and others are just an hour of a fun activity with friends.”
She keeps her food intake in check by logging her daily calories:
“Everyday I make a promise to myself to stay away from the foods that led me to be 300 pounds. I still have to keep myself in check — I log my food into a Blackberry application that tracks my calories … I do not deprive myself of anything. If I want something, I eat it. I no longer eat the whole container or bag, but I have a portion. But my cravings have changed. I no longer crave chicken wings and fries. I would rather have a grilled veggies and chicken kebab.”
Tara is quite the technie, apart from using a Blackberry application to log her calories she’s also getting online assistance for her marathon training.  She explained,
“I am so excited that I will be working with the New York Road Runners online training program. It is hard for me to dedicate a definitive time and place on a weekly basis to train, so this online training program will offer me the guidance and flexibility that I need.”
Good luck, Tara!

Alison Sweeney Does Wii Workout

Alison Sweeney, the host of Biggest Loser and also actress on Days of Our Lives has been a strong advocate of the EA Sports Active package by Nintendo Wii. She told People Magazine,
“It’s just a good example of how you can really get it done at home,” she says. “You don’t need to have a big fancy gym membership. One of the things we talk about on The Biggest Loser all the time is just how difficult it is financially to lose weight sometimes. And that isn’t an excuse anymore. There are really reasonable options.”
She also revealed that she learned a lot about health and fitness while on Biggest Loser and it helped her in her post-baby weight loss:
“I’ve learned a lot about nutrition and how to count my calories”
Sweeney is now a mother of two children and she explained that during her second pregnancy she reached for fresh fruits instead of processed sweets when getting a craving.
“You deserve to be spoiled – but within reason,” she cautioned.

Alison Sweeney Exercise Tips

Alison Sweeney

Biggest Loser host, Alison Sweeney, did a quick video on Us Magazine showing some workout tips that can be done in the home.  She also took a moment to promote the Ninentendo Wii EA Sports Active. In all honesty, it was a rather odd little video but at least we get to learn a few exercise pointers.

She filmed the video in a bathroom where she had a tiled floor surface for ease of movement.  For the first exercise tip she stood on two folded hand towels and demonstrated sliding the legs open and closed in a scissor motion.  Doing this repetitively creates a lot of resistance and is good for the inner and outer thighs.

Jillian Michaels’ Personal Workout

jillian-michaels-personal-workout

Biggest Loser fitness trainer Jillian Michaels knows how to tell others to get in shape but in Ok Magazine we finally get a glimpse at what she does on her own time to keep herself in such tip-top shape.  Firstly, she was asked how often she workouts, she responded,

“When we’re not shooting I try to do five hours a week and when we are I’m lucky to get in three hours a week.  My body goes from a size 2 to a 4 and I gain 5 pounds.  You’ll see it from the beginning of the season to the end when I get tired. We’re working 14-hour days and when that happens, you  need to be very mindful of your food.”
