Nutritionist Joy Bauer busted a few diet myths on NBC’s Take it Off Today show earlier today. A few of the falsities she tackled included the deception that the chlorine-rinse prewashed food like baby carrots are put through is harmful.

Bauer also set the record straight on the rumours that yo-yo dieting permanently damages your metabolism, dairy causes bloating and alcohol turns to sugar in your body.

“Alcohol is so misunderstood,” she said on the show. “We have carbohydrates, protein, fat and alcohol. Alcohol is a separate entity; it is metabolised in the liver.”

One myth I’m certainly glad Bauer proved false was the belief that high-fat and high-sugar foods cause cellulite.

Watch the best-selling author, who is also the nutritionist for the New York City Ballet, bust these myths with her informed explanations on the Today show on NBC in the video above.

“It’s from making the right decisions.
She also gave a diet tip to their readership explaining to brush your teeth in order to not eat when feeling tempted. She said,

So brushing your teeth actually prevents you from eating until later.”

“If I’m sitting around at home, I’m not going to want the 100-calorie Oreos,” she told SELF. “I’m going to want the real Oreos and milk. Staying busy…I have more discipline.”

Her next tip is to allow for those indulgences.

“Comfort food helps. I allow myself one bad meal every week. Yesterday, I had pizza and wine. There’s too much good out there to never indulge.”

When it comes to healthy foods she is sure to eat lots of chicken and fish and she jazzes it up with ketchup or hot sauce. She also mentioned her ‘Sasha Salad’ made of lettuce, tomato, avocado, jalapenos and chicken breast. Lastly, she mentioned that she feels she’s at her best when she’s not too thin or too heavy.

“I feel best when I’m not really thin and not really heavy, when I’m still curvy,” she told SELF. “I really believe that everyone is supposed to be different, and whatever is a natural weight for you is usually what looks best.”

Inside the three country music celebrities gave their tips on diet and exercise. Julianne was first asked about her typical diet. She replied,

“I’m probably the worst person to talk to about that because I pretty much eat what I want. My trick is to stop as soon as I’m full.”

Julianne also wanted to make it clear to the public that she eats because she’s concerned about how girls base their own body image on what they see in TV and magazines. She explained,

“But I want everyone to know—especially young girls—I eat. I am not starving myself. I’m concerned about young women and their self-esteem being based on what they see on TV or in magazines. It’s not about being beautiful on the outside, it’s about loving yourself and who you are.”

Julianne also decided to set the record straight when it comes to her diet because recently a tabloid reported something that was false:

“One magazine recently reported that I drink only orange juice for my carbs. I want to clear that up right now. If I did that, it would kill me. I don’t want anyone to read that and believe it.”

Good for Julianne! She is a smart and beautiful young woman who speaks her mind.

Newsweek has finally investigated the matter to determine that some of Oprah’s ideas and her guests’ ideas are just down-right outlandish, impractical or unhealthy. Oprah’s campaign to ‘Live Your Best Life Ever’ is finally being questioned. There was only a small portion of the article that actually agreed with Oprah’s philosophy and that was on diet and exercise:

“Right about now is when you might be asking, is there anything Oprah gets right? In fact, there is. For one, she gives excellent diet and fitness tips. Two of her longest-serving resident experts, Dr. Mehmet Oz and trainer Bob Greene, routinely offer sound, high-quality advice to Oprah and her audience on how to lose weight and improve overall health. For the most part, it is free of the usual diet-industry hype, perhaps because so many of her viewers are on to those scams by now. Oz’s and Greene’s philosophy amounts to: eat nutritious foods, and exercise.”

However, it’s not new news that people should eat nutritious foods and exercise. What’s more interesting is that Oprah earns millions of dollars a year but can’t seem to get her own weight under control but yet we still listen to her as if she is the all-knowing Oprah.

In the photo above Biggest Loser fitness trainer, Jillian Michaels, is practically unrecognizable without her spandex and tennis shoes. Posing in a cute orange dress she gave some tips to the readers of Ok! Magazine on how they can quickly lose a dress size for an upcoming event. Here are nine things a gal can do:

1. Take three to five days to prepare.

2. Drink a gallon of water a day with two tea bags of dandelion tea, all-natural cranberry juice and the juice of one lemon.

3. Eat asparagus and a little watermelon. The potassium helps flush water out.

4. No salt. Sodium-rich foods include cold cuts, most meat, anything processed.

5. Avoid tanning because the sun will dehydrate you. If you want color, go for a spray tan.

6. Work out.

7. Spend three 20-minute sessions in a sauna and sweat it out of your cells.

8. Avoid carbs.

9. Go to a spa and get a body wrap.

Jillian also said that when she doesn’t have time to workout she avoids the empty calories of alcohol. However, she did give a good recipe on how to save some calories when enjoying a nice cocktail, which is something to consider once that dress finally fits! She explained,

“A margarita is 500 calories, so instead you can do the diet version that has 80 calories, with Patrón on the rocks, fresh lime and if you need it, a tiny splash of orange juice.”

In 2004 Ciara made her debut with the Billboard number-one single, Goodies. Since then, she has quite a few titles under her belt as singer-songwriter, record producer, dancer, fashion model, music video director and actress. Her latest video with Justin Timerlake, Love, Sex, Magic, is a steamy number where her svelte body takes center stage. She recently told People Magazine about her diet and exercise habits. She said,

“I work out for an hour a day, and eat five to eight small meals a day – complex carbs, fiber, greens, protein, and brown rice.”

The R&B songstress also revealed some of her cooking skills and it appears she’s careful about portion sizes. She explained,

“I make spaghetti with wheat pasta, ground turkey and tomato sauce, but [just] two spoons – not a whole cup.”

Be it two spoons or two cups, Ciara has nothing to worry about when it comes to her fit figure!

The always healthy and vibrant looking Mandy Moore talked with People Magazine about weight, body image and the pressures of Hollywood. She admits that she is curvier than other stars but overall, she is happy with her body. She does however have mixed feelings about her hips.

“I still have a love-hate relationship with them. I’m not a swizzle stick – I’m not 14 anymore.”

Standing at 5′10″ Mandy said she tries to maintain a healthy balance of “colorful foods,” exercise and acupuncture but she won’t get obsessed about dieting. She explained,

“I appreciate when there are other women out there who are beautiful and aren’t, you know, a pound,” she says. “I feel lucky that I don’t feel pressure … to have my whole life be controlled by whether I fit into a certain size.”

Mandy thinks it’s all about moderation and not deprivation. She told People Magazine,

“If I really want something, I don’t feel like it’s worth it to deprive myself,” says Moore, whose weaknesses include french fries, cookies, and pretty much anything containing peanut butter. “I’ve never said, ‘I want to look like this’ or ‘I want to look like that’ or ‘I’m not good enough.’ … To me it’s about feeling good, feeling healthy.”

Just last weekend Cher was out in here infamous sheer black bodysuit while attending the David Foster and Friends concert in Las Vegas. The 62-year-old wore a similar bodysuit 20 years ago in the ‘Turn Back Time’ video. In her last Oprah interview she said that it “sucks” getting old and that she has to work harder than ever to get into her costumes for the stage. She also explained that she has to remember to eat,

“It’s not that good for you because it slows down your metabolism,” she told Winfrey. “You can get fat just doing that.”

She did go on to tell Oprah that when it’s time for her to lose weight she is completely dedicated and is conscious about everything she eats. She puts herself on an exercise plan and eats seven small meals a day. She told Oprah that she practices,

“running and walking and … the Power Plate.”

She looks absolutely stunning. Women like Cher should be an inspiration to all women because they prove that with some dedication we can all ‘Turn Back Time,’ or maybe just slow it down a bit!

“I’ve always seen, always noticed, always thought it was so cool and that maybe one day I’d get to do it.”

She also explained that the Indy 500 driver surprisingly have a little milk tradition of their own, not necessarily posing with a creamy mustache but they do drink it. She explained,

“Milk is a tradition in the Indy 500. It started way back, I think it might have been back in the 40s or something and one of the drivers had wanted milk after the race and so ever since then it’s been a tradition and something that every driver does after they win the Indy 500.”

And lastly, since Danica is now a Body By Milk spokesperson she encouraged others to add milk to their diets by explaining the benefits.

“I want to drink chocolate milk, because chocolate milk is really good for you after you work out. C’mon, who doesn’t like chocolate milk? I mean seriously, it’s got protein and it’s got fast carbohydrates that go straight to your muscles so it’s really ideal for refueling after a workout or a race.”

Celeb diet doc…
Great marketing piece by the dairy industry. Milk is for calves to double in size and not fit for human consumption. Milk consumption in humans (it’s good for cows remember) has been linked with a number of chronic diseases including prostate cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, heart disease and osteoporosis.
