The Star Trek Stars Workout

Health Magazine got the inside scoop on what the stars of Star Trek are doing to keep in shape this summer.  Be it fat burning boot camp, the core toning pilates or the mental challenges of martial arts the newest generation of Star Trek is a health conscious and active crew.  John Cho, who stars as Hikaru Sulu said,
“I really liked the martial arts stuff I learned during the filming of Star Trek, but learning Tae Kwon Do has been a bumpy road to be honest. I also recently got into the Israeli martial arts Krav Maga due to another project I’m going to be working on, and that is really unbelievable. It’s very intense and good for you. I definitely want to pursue that more this summer.”
The lovely Zoe Saldana who plays Uhura works out year round and it appears Pilates is her passion.
“I love doing Pilates—doesn’t matter what season it is.”
Lastly, there’s Zach Quinto who stars as Doctor Spock. He revealed he’s into boot camp workouts because of the structure.
“There was a group of us who did sort of a Star Trek boot camp in preparation for some of the physical scenes we would be doing. That changed my routine because it gave me more structure than my own physical workout regimen. This summer, I’d like to get back to that. I will go to the gym as much as possible and do a lot of yoga.”

Madonna: Workout

Madonna has kicked off her summer tour this past week and of course she is looking as fit as ever.  According to the Daily Mail she has been training two hours a day with celebrity trainer, Tracy Anderson.  Anderson said,
“I change her regime every week. She does 45 minutes of dance every day and then a series of sequences. She is easy to work with and a professional athlete.”
But something Anderson is not going to take the credit for is Madonna’s veiny arms.
“I have completely changed Madonna’s body. I told her to forget everything she had been taught before and to give up yoga, which can make you look terribly veiny. Madonna’s very healthy and looks fantasic but those veins have nothing to do with me!”
I’ve never heard of yoga giving you veiny arms, it’s probably just because Madonna is 50 years old and has zilch when it comes to body fat so her veins are visible.  Tracy also mentioned that she gives Madonna and all of her clients coconut water while training.

Sarah Palin Likes to Run

Sarah Palin, the 45-year-old governor of Alaska gave an interview with Runners World Magazine where she revealed a bit about her own workout regimen as well as how she thinks she would fare against President Obama in a good old-fashioned foot race.  Palin said that she always runs and it keeps her sane.  The mother of five explained that unless she’s ‘too pregnant’ she runs,
“I feel so crappy if I go more than a few days without running … Sweat is my sanity.”
She normally runs along the trails in Anchorage and Juneau but she’s often not spotted by tourists nor photographers:
“When I run, I’m totally incognito because I’m not wearing the trough of full makeup,” she boasts. “I can go running through a mob of tourists and they don’t recognize me.”
Palin also revealed what music she listens to while running:
“… old Van Halen and AC/DC, then I get into my country music, then I always wrap it up with a couple mellow Amy Grant songs.”
Keep in mind that Palin does have a few marathon runs under her belt so when asked how she would fare against the President she said,
“I betcha I’d have more endurance.  So if it were a long race that required a lot of endurance I’d win.”

hugh-jackmans-dedication-to-working-out

International celebrity Hugh Jackman, known for his role in the X-men series and most recently as the song and dance man with Beyonce Knowles at the Oscars, has girls drooling and men jealous with his stellar physique.  This month, in the Australian Fitness First Magazine, he and his trainer Michael Ryan discussed his training and lifestyle habits.   He proves to be a man dedicated to exercise and fitness.  His trainer said,

“Hugh has the most extraordianry motivation that I’ve ever come across.  So muchof Hugh’s motivation comes from within.  As an example, Hugh was here for two days only (from the USA), and he’s on a plane out of here at 6:30am, and so we will get up at 4:15am to fit in a weights session, a soft sand run, a beach swim and brekky at his favourite morning eatery, Speedo’s Cafe at Bondi.  All before he flies out.”

Jordin Sparks Gets in Shape for Tour

American Idol winner Jordin Sparks is gearing up for her cross-country summer tour with the Jonas Brothers.  She told Self magazine that last summer she didn’t keep up an exercise regimen and she noticed the change in her health and performances.  But this time around in 2009 she has a different plan.  She said,
“Last year, I didn’t do anything to stay in shape on tour,” Jordin confesses. “I just kind of loved the fact that I was on tour. But I was exhausted all the time, and I realize now, if I had worked out and ate healthier and made smarter choices, I would have had a lot more energy onstage.”
The most important change she’ll be making is having a personal trainer on hand to keep her on a fitness schedule, not necessarily to be skinny but to be healthy:
“I actually, for the first time in my life, asked to have a trainer…. It’s cool to be able to look in the mirror and see the tone and muscle now–even though it’s not what I was going for, just being healthy is an amazing thing.”
Jordin also mentioned that getting up in the morning and getting her workouts done will help her energy levels:
“Getting up and getting out of bed, that’s the hardest part,” the star admits. “I cherish the time when I actually get to sleep! So I just tell myself I know I’ll feel so much better, and I know that if I start my day like that, I’m more like to get other things done, too, instead of putting them off.”
As for music, Jordin said that anything by Kanye West keeps her moving and motivated during workouts.

Michael Jackson Training with Lou Ferrigno

Yes, it’s true, the Incredible Hulk is training Michael Jackson in preparation for his July live performances.  Lou Ferrigno’s wife, Carla, did confirm the rumor with People Magazine and said that the unlikely duo had trained together in the past.  She explained,
“Lou and Michael have known each other for a long time,” says Carla. “Lou first trained Michael 15-years ago.”
As of now no one knows what their workout actually consists of but it sure would be interesting to know.  Since the king of pop is so thin already he’s obviously not trying to lose weight so one would think he’s trying to bulk up a bit or perhaps doing some cardio conditioning to prepare for long performances.
As for Lou Ferrigno, apart from his role as The Incredible Hulk for the 1970s series he is also a two-time Mr. Universe and has trained other celebrities such as Mickey Rourke and Chuck Norris.

Jillian Michaels: Get-Fit Tips

jillian-michaels-get-fit-tips

Fitness guru Jillian Michaels from Biggest Loser has teamed up with Self Magazine to offer monthly fitness tips for those who need a little inspiration or a little advice on how to trim down those difficult areas.  For the month of June she gave some advice on how to get motivated to lose weight and get in shape.  She introduced her new Get-Fit tips by offering her services:
“So you understand that celebrities have a team of people making them look hot at all times.  From their personal chef to their dietician, their trainer, their plastic surgeon, shhhh…, and what do you guys have?  You have me.”
She mentioned that the majority of people who write in questions ask about inspiration and how to get it.
“I can’t inspire you, the only person that can inspire you, is you.  What you need to do is think of all the reasons why you want to change….Do you want to look hot…Do you want to see your grandchild graduate from college?”
She went on to explain that no matter the reason to get in shape, write it down on a piece of paper, remember it, and let that be your inspiration.  However, she did confess that she’s not perfect when it comes to her desire to stay fit but she loves the end results and that is what maintains her high level of motivation.
“I don’t love broccoli, I don’t love the treadmill, but I love the way I feel at the end.  I’m strong, it empowers me in all facets of my life.  So remember that although something might not be fun in the moment remind yourself of the ultimate reward and allow that to motivate you through the tough times.”

Marisa Miller, “More than anything i think it’s boxing.  It’s good because you use your whole body and you work your legs all the way up.”
Flavia Olivera shyly answered, “Actually, I can eat anything.  If you go to the beach, take in sun and drink coconut water you don’t need to workout”…..”I don’t want to say these things, I feel like a snob.”
Evidently, these women are just like us humans, they have to work at it.  Well, except for Flavia, but at least she was sweet about it in the interview

“It took me about eight years to feel it was okay to look my nicest. To think, I’m just going to enjoy this. The older I get, the more I like hearing it. There’s this tremendous pressure off [after age 50] – you deserve to have a wrinkle, you deserve to have a little pooch on your tummy.”
