The Saturday Night Live (SNL) comedian, Casey Wilson, has recently left the iconic late night comedy show. Most known for spoofing celebrities such as Rachel Ray and Jennifer Aniston she has left the show and now in search of greener pastures.

However, last week E! Online mistakingly reported that the curvy comedian who had just joined SNL in 2008, was fired from the show because producers had demanded that she lose 30 pounds over the summer of 2009 but failed to do so. But Casey laughed it all off in an exclusive statement to People Magazine that those rumors are wrong. The 28-year-old said,

“I had an amazing time on SNL, and these rumors are completely untrue. And to clarify, the issue isn’t that I’m too fat, it’s that I’m too phat. Can I get a WHAT-WHAT!”

In addition, a representative from SNL also told People Magazine that there was no truth to the E! Online report.

It has been interesting the past year observing how the fashion industry is playing up to the needs of us normal humans who are not bone thin models or celebrities who can afford personal trainers and quick fix detox treatments. We’ve seen morbidly obese Beth Ditto pose nude for the cover of Love magazine, plus size models like Lizzie Miller appearing semi-nude in Glamour magazine and Crystal Renn writing memoirs about how she starved when she was a skinny model.

The media and the fashion industry have become obsessed with the physical, stars like Kelly Clarkson and Jessica Simpson get hassled for being ‘chubby’ and then at the same time people like Tyra Banks tell us to embrace our curves.  And yet here we have another example by Victoria’s Secret and the Love Your Body contest.  In hopes of selling more underwear they’ve launched an online contest where normal women can upload their photo and get voted on by other Internet surfers out there and possibly win a trip to a spa in New York City as well as some money for a shopping spree.  Yes, the prize would be fabulous to win but what’s not pleasant is the fact that women are posting images of themselves on the site, some all glam’d up and posing as if it were a professional photo shot and other images of chubby women sporting their underwear and bra while in the living room; and all of these women are all willing to have a global audience vote on their appearance.

Why this obsession with proving to the world that we love our bodies or embrace our curves and how silly is it for Victoria’s Secret to launch a campaign labeled ‘Love Your Body’ but then use an online voting system where strangers will be picking a winner based on a photo?  How about a campaign about embracing the mind or loving your brain?  It’s just a thought.

Crystal Renn, once a super skinny model on the brink of collapse, has penned a new book Hungry. The now plus-size Ford model covers everything from health, to weight and even self-esteem issues in the memoir and hopes to shine a light on how people in the industry and in general perceive beauty.

“I’d like to see everyone take on the attitude that there are women of all different shapes and sizes as ‘the beauty ideal,’ and that it’s not one type or another. There are women who are naturally a size 2 — you can’t forget them, and that’s discrimination the other way,” Renn said in an interview. “All women bring something different to the table and we have to appreciate them all.”

Renn, who now works the pages of Vogue and Glamour as well as the runway with Jean Paul Gaultier, believes that there is a cycle to everything. From the Wall Street crash, to the housing market meltdown and now modeling. She says during the Victorian era the fuller figure was celebrated, while in the 1950s is was breasts, the 1980s shoulders and the 1990s the waifs. And now it seems it’s the return of the fuller figure.

Recent media coverage seems to agree. Just this week, we reported on Lizzie Miller’s triumph in Glamour magazine and the backlash from Kelly Clarkson’s Photoshopped Self cover shoot.

After the recent celebrity Photoshop fallout when Self magazine digitally slimmed down Kelly Clarkson on the cover of their September issue, a healthier, fuller photo has been published in a woman’s magazine. In Glamour magazine no less.

Twenty-year-old Lizzie Miller, who is between a size 12 and 14 and weighs 180 pounds, was photographed semi-nude for a story on body confidence that appears on p.194 of the fashion magazine’s September issue. Editor-in-chief Cindi Leive said on The Today Show that within hours of the magazine hitting the newsstands, their offices began receiving emails from readers about the photo.

Comments such as “She’s real and she’s beautiful”, “This woman rocks and we need more women like her to make a mark on what real women actually look like” and “Finally a woman who looks like most American women” began flooding in, and it more than proved that the magazine’s readers are demanding for a more realistic view of them in fashion magazines.

With the amount of publicity Miller’s photo is generating, will women’s magazines and Glamour magazine in particular be using more realistically-sized women in fashion spreads?

“Speaking for my own magazine I think it absolutely will,” says Leive on The Today Show. “I think it’s a sign of the times that women are looking for a little more authenticity and a little less artifice in every aspect of their lives.”

“I have cellulite. I admit it. Sometimes I just say, ‘Screw it, I am going to wear a bikini,’ ” she says.

“I am so aware that I don’t want to change the way I live because of that kind of attention … You just brace yourself for a bad picture.”

Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, has fought wrestlers in the ring and the bad guys on the big screen but his latest role as a Diabetes Awareness Ambassador is to fight off diabetes by promoting healthy living and active lifestyles.  In his new Public Service Announcement (PSA) he says,

“Get outside. Play a game. Do something active together. We can make a difference in our own families through exercise, eating right and teaching healthy behaviors to our children,” Johnson, 37, says in the PSA.

The target of the campaign is to reach out to those 24 million Americans who already have diabetes and encourage them to get active.  Dwayne goes on then to say that families need to be active and eat right because it’s these small things that makes diabetes manageable and will also prevent children from getting diabetes later.

Past ambassadors include Halle Berry, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Dustin Hoffman. Maybe the foundation should also consider The View co-host Sherri Shepherd because since she has lost her weight and is eating right, she is no longer taking her prescribed diabetes medication.

Kimberley Walsh is now the second Girls Aloud singer to admit that she has issues about her body image.  Singing partner Cheryl Cole has often times admitted to the media that she struggles with her weight but it seems that Kimberley also sings the same sad song.  The songstress recently told Heat Magazine that she is even willing to consider plastic surgery if it means she would be more comfortable with her body.  She said,

“I’m constantly on a diet. I’m not confident or comfortable with my body. I wouldn’t rule out surgery,” she told Heat.

She went on to explain that when she was growing up that supermodel Kate Moss’s ultra-thin body was in style and she knew that she would never look like that.  These days, the singer is taking a year-long break from the girl pop group but she is still keeping a very strict diet.  She admitted,

“I just go for the healthiest option on the menu. It’s boring, but age isn’t on my side anymore.”

Supermodel Cindy Crawford has still got the look at the age of 43.  In the photo above you can see on the right that she looks just the same as she did back in the early 90s.  Known for her sexy photos for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues she admits to Allure Magazine that her body has changed considerably since then but she takes it all in stride.  She even admits that she has cellulite!

“I think I look pretty good for 43. But I don’t look the way I did when I was 23.  So if Star magazine or whatever wants to print a picture of me on the beach from the back, at the worst possible angle, and say that I have cellulite, I’m like, Guess what? I do, and I never said I didn’t.”

Good for her!  Crawford went on to say that she takes good care of herself but she’s not going to obsess over it.  She explained that no matter how much you exercise or how many miracle creams you use the body is going to change and she wants to look like how she is supposed to look at her age.

Singer LeAnn Rimes has remained silent for a long time regarding her fight with psoriasis. But the 26-year-old has broken her silence by speaking to Shape magazine about it and joining the Stop Hiding and Start Living Campaign.

Having suffered from the chronic skin disease since she was 2-years-old, the Grammy Award winner only began controlling it (instead of it controlling her) within the last 5 years. How? By finding the right dermatologist and changing her lifestyle.

“There are 7 million Americans living with psoriasis and a lot of them are not getting treatment because they think it’s just a rash,” she told Shape.

But it’s more than a rash. Psoriasis can affect the quality of life the same way other chronic diseases such as depression, heart attacks and heart failure, hypertension or type 2 diabetes do. Rimes, however, manages the disease by alleviating as much stress from her life as she can. She told Shape she does yoga and completely cuts out fried, fatty food from her diet. She’s also constantly applies lotion to her skin and drinks water to keep it hydrated.

When touring, Rimes researches the gyms of the cities she’ll be visiting and tries to get in as much spinning, weight lifting, running and even Muay Thai kickboxing as she can.

Recently, while out for a jog, French President Nicolas Sarkozy collapsed and people are saying it’s the fault of a special diet that his wife’s trainer put him on.  Ever since he married the supermodel turned pop star Carla Bruni 18 months ago, he’s been trying to keep up with her but he’s starting to show that he simply can’t.  His pal and MP, Patrick Balkany said,

“The President is going to have to take more care, work a little less hard and eat a little bit more.”

The 54-year-old President has been looking thin as of late and his friend even said that he looked more like a Tour de France competitor instead of a President.  Now, all the blame is being placed on Bruni’s trainer, Julie Imperiali who allegedly told the President to lose nine pounds and two pant sizes.  Sarkozy was never big to begin with so if it’s true that she made this recommendation then I’m guessing she’ll be off the presidential payroll very soon!

As for his failed attempt to go for a jog, he was rushed to the hospital and doctors found no signs of heart problems.  Officials say that Sarkozy had a ‘vasovagal episode,’ something that occurs during exercise.
