Nicole Kidman On Food & Fitness

nicole-kidman-on-food-and-fitness

Any time we see the dazzling Nicole Kidman she’s on the red carpet in a designer label and covered in jewels but the Nicole off-camera is a different person. In the December issue of the British SHE Magazine, Nicole tells readers about her passion for vintage clothing, exercise and the desire to be healthy. The 42-year-old loves to go running and it’s as if she inherited that passion from her father who is a marathon runner and he’s even passing that on to his granddaughter, Sunday Rose. Nicole said,

“He’s 71 and goes on 10-mile runs. He takes Sunday hiking on his back for hours.”

Homer Simpson is Britain’s Health Poster Boy

homer simpson

Britain’s Department of Health has found a poster boy for their new Change4Life campaign. And it’s none other than the beer-guzzling, doughnut-chowing, lazy slob that is Homer Simpson. An unlikely mascot for healthy eating habits indeed!

Growing up we were all forced to eat broccoli by our parents, no matter how badly we hated it. These days eating broccoli may not be so arduous for some, but for those who still need convincing, those little green trees really are good your heart.

Controversial PETA Ad is Just Plain Wrong

controversial-peta-ad-pokes-at-fat-people
PETA has one great marketing team; they’ve clothed Cloris Leachman in a dress made of cabbage leaves and de-clothed Alicia Silverstone for a controversial nude PETA ad. However, their latest ad campaign on a Jackonsville Florida billboard doesn’t involve any celebrities but it has meat-lovers in a frenzy. The ad implies that obese women are like whales and if they go vegetarian they will be thin. The text reads as: Save the Whales. Lose the Blubber: Go Vegetarian.

Vitamix 5200 Blender Review

VItamix 5200

When it comes to blenders I highly recommend the Vitamix 5200. This blender has got some serious horsepower behind it and will blend just about anything. So why did I choose the Vitamix 5200? I was frustrated with my cheapo Osterizer blender that was severely underpowered. When I would make a smoothie with ice, the ice would still be in conspicuously large chunks. So I heard a lot about the Vitamix and was a little hestitant considering the price. But I remember my friend’s mom using it back in the 1970’s and loving it. Yes Vitamix has been around a long time!

Well I made the leap and here’s why I think the Vitamix is the blender of choice… [Read more →]

Raw Chocolate Cheesecake Recipe

I just had a wonderful time with Olga Aura, a self described health counselor, at her raw chocolate cooking class. I might also add “gourmet raw chef extraordinaire” to her description judging by this raw chocolate cheesecake recipe she made during the class. It was in a word “delicious!” It has an amazing “cheesecake” taste to it, without the dairy. And as you know I am not a fan of dairy for many reasons. This raw cheesecake is frankly tastier than more traditional cheesecakes I have had in the past. [Read more →]

Eating Healthy On A Budget

I just got back from my local produce market and grabbed a couple days worth of groceries. Here’s my tip on where to go for your produce. If there is a large Russian clientele you’re in the right place. Don’t ask me why, all I can tell you is that Russians know where to go!

Here’s what I got: 2 leeks, 1 pint raspberries, 4 limes, 3 yellow onions, 3 kiwis, 2 red peppers, 1 fennel, 5 carrots, 5 Roma tomatoes, 1 cantaloupe, 1 purple cabbage, 1 shallot bulb, 1 bunch of scallions, 1 cauliflower head, 1 eggplant, and 4 bananas. So what’s the grand total? [Read more →]
