Top 10 Useless Celebrity Health Therapies

There are plenty of alternative health treatments, diet plans and supplements that all get celebrity backing. The Kardashians for QuickTrim, Valerie Bertineli for Jenny Craig and the list goes on and on. The insurance firm Aviva surveyed 200 general practitioners to determine what health fads are ineffective and sometimes harmful. Dr. Douglas Wright of Aviva said that women are wasting their money on health fads. In addition, he said,

Your Doctor Won’t Tell You You’re Fat

Two-thirds of American’s are overweight. What’s even worse is that the person who is probably in the best position to tell you when you’re overweight and need to drop a couple of pounds for your health, won’t say a word.
Many physicians screen their patients for obesity, but a 2005 study by the CDC found that only 40% of obese people were told by their doctors that they need to lose the excess weight.
“Physicians are reluctant to bring up weight because it’s such a loaded issue,” Dr William Dietz, director of the Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity at the CDC, told the LA Times.

Researchers from the University of Michigan School of Public Health released their findings at a meeting of the American Heart Association, saying in their study more than 10% of the female participants with the deficiency had high blood pressure, compared to the 3.7% who had sufficient vitamin D and blood pressure levels.
“Our results indicate that early vitamin D deficiency may increase the long-term risk of high blood pressure in women at mid-life,” Flojaune Griffin told Reuters.

Are Skinny Thighs Unhealthy?

Being able to fit into your skinny jeans may not be a feat you’d want to celebrate anymore. Recent research shows that thin thighs could put you at a higher risk of developing heart disease and could even lead to premature death.
Danish researchers studied 2 800 test subjects for up to 12 years and discovered that those who had the skinniest thighs (between 18 and 23 inches in circumference) had almost double the risk of heart disease when compared to those with larger thighs. According to Greg Benson, president of the International Sports and Fitness Trainers Association, a woman with a 23-inch thigh would typically be a size 6 or 8.
