January Jones stars as Betty Draper in the Mad Men show that’s set during the 60s. The thin actress has supposedly been in ‘hot water’ with the producers of the show because she’s not curvy enough to fit into the girdles; girdles were an everyday clothing item back then. This week at an AMC network party she told reporters,
“I got told a couple of days ago that I look too skinny, and I was in trouble. I’m naturally pretty thin, so I’m trying,”
The actress explained that she’s actually a hearty eater and she’ll eat whatever they are offering on the set. Being that she’s from South Dakota she’s a meat and potatoes gal. The star also noted that all of the women on the show are encouraged not to exercise excessively because in the 1960s women were softer and had much more meat on their bones in comparison to the overly thin stars of modern times. She said that she and the other actresses are,
“encouraged NOT to work out. We want soft; we don’t want any muscle definition.”
She went on to explain that the producers want voluptuous women because they was considered more beautiful back then.
The third season of Mad Men premieres on August 16th on the AMC network.
