<p>In the January issue of <em>Ladies Home Journal</em>, <a href="http://www.celebritydietdoctor.com/biggest-loser-season-9-has-biggest-contestant-ever/">Biggest Loser</a> trainer <a href="http://www.celebritydietdoctor.com/jillian-michaels-workout/">Jillian Michaels</a> talks about her struggles as an overweight child and how these days her passion isn&#8217;t just about fitness but it&#8217;s helping people improve their lives. She said that as a teenager she only ate junk food and because of her lack of direction she rebelled; she even stole a car once.  Also, her relationship with her father revolved around food so when they were alone that was their time to eat together.</p>
<p><span id="more-7693"></span>It&#8217;s obvious she no longer has junk food issues.  She has a successful career changing the lives of those who have severe weight problems.  She explained that she uses fitness as her tool to change lives.  Just as a carpenter has a tool box to build something, her &#8216;tool&#8217; is exercise in order to live a fulfilled life.  She explained,</p>
<blockquote><p>“When someone feels strong physically they feel strong in every aspect of their existence. If they have endurance and achieve in the gym, then I can redefine their entire self image. I can wipe away years of negativity.”</p></blockquote>
<p>When it comes to Jillian&#8217;s techniques she tries to override the contestants&#8217; negativity with fear. By boasting a rough exterior she intimidates them to become successful.  She thinks she &#8216;programs&#8217; them for success.</p>

But in her most recent interview with <em>Ladies&#8217; Home Journal</em> she revealed her soft side and expressed her true concern for these new contestants.  <a href="http://www.celebritydietdoctor.com/biggest-loser-season-9-has-biggest-contestant-ever/">Season 9</a> boasts the largest contestants to date on the show and this has created new challenges for the staff and trainers.  For example, they had to buy bigger workout equipment and they have to be more careful in monitoring and managing medical conditions. Michaels said that as the contestants get bigger she and the other trainers worry as they have no say over the challenges. She said,<span id="more-7688"></span></p>
<blockquote><p>“You never see what’s going on in its entirety. For every 10 minutes we’re on the show, acting like insane people, there are a hundred hours of training you don’t see. The stretching, the icing. Nobody wants to watch that.”</p></blockquote>
<p>Because of the genuine concern for the well-being of the contestants, executive producer Todd A. Nelson has said that they are &#8216;fine-tuning&#8217; the process so that heavier populations can be reached.</p>
<p>Biggest Loser season 9 debuts January 5th.</p>

<p>The workout is broken up into 3 levels, each level consisting of 20 minutes of circuit training, which is a mixture of strength-training, cardio and abdominal work. Each 20-minute level works on Jillian’s 3-2-1 interval system: 3 minutes strength, 2 minutes cardio and 1 minute abs.</p>
<p>You have to start at Level 1 as Level 2 gets much harder and Level 3 is even tougher. And when Jillian says you’ve got to start at the beginning, trust us, you’ve got to start at the beginning!</p>
