<p>Approximately ten years ago, <em>The Today Show</em> and <em>Access Hollywood</em> correspondent <a href="http://www.celebritydietdoctor.com/maria-menounos-workout/">Maria Menounos</a>, went from a size 14 to a size 9 and she&#8217;s managed to keep the weight off. However, she recently lost five pounds just by slightly changing her eating habits. She said that she gave up eating in chain restaurants and munching on those chips and salsa and instead grew a garden in her yard. She said,<span id="more-10920"></span></p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;&#8230;I was not eating as well as I could, and now that I have a garden, I see these beautiful vegetables growing, and I start to think about what I could make to eat.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>She likes getting home earlier now instead of going to those restaurants because she gets to spend more time with her family and her dogs. Now she just runs out to the yard and grabs fresh carrots, celery, lettuce and other veggie goodness and whips up a salad and tops it with turkey.</p>
<p>On those days that she does splurge and eat junk food she is sure to balance it out with good food the next day. She explained,</p>
<blockquote><p>“I’m trying to balance all the fat I ate yesterday and eat clean and healthy today. That’s always been my way of eating everything I want in moderation, and making sure that I balance it out.”</p></blockquote>

<p>Can you believe <a href="../?s=maria+menounos">Maria Menounos</a> used to be a size 14?! The Greek-born actress, who is a correspondent for <em>The Today Show</em> and <em>Access Hollywood</em>, dropped to a size 4 about 9 years ago. She revealed to <em>Fitness</em> magazine just how she keeps the weight off.</p>
<p>Menounos started studying the Israeli martial art <a href="../maria-menounos-krav-maga-workout/">Krav Maga</a> last year when she was preparing to go to Iraq.</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8216;I wanted to be able to defend myself if I needed to, God forbid,&#8217; she told <em>Fitness</em>. &#8216;But what I found was that it&#8217;s the best overall workout I&#8217;ve ever experienced. It&#8217;s cardio. It&#8217;s strength. It&#8217;s reflexes. It&#8217;s everything.&#8217;</p></blockquote>
<p><span id="more-4234"></span>In the video above, she recreates some of her fighting fit moves, which are essentially self defense focused, but because you have to use your entire body to defend yourself there&#8217;s quite a big fitness component to them. To really give your muscles a good workout, repeat the routine 3 times a week with at least 4 cardio routines of about one hour.</p>
<p>Menounos also stays in shape by running on the treadmill, playing basketball and working out with her trainer. The Greek beauty balances her diet with chicken and tuna wraps (because of her busy schedule) and even a few slices of pizza now and then.</p>

<blockquote><p>“I honestly didn’t feel bad when I had gained the weight because my weight gain was in the best places you would want it – here (chest) and here (buttocks).  I still had a flat stomach.  Yeah, I was disappointed at different times when I tried clothes on and they didn’t fit, but I was in college. I didn’t really care too much. Everybody else around me had a bigger problem.”</p></blockquote>
<p>She continues,</p>
<blockquote><p>“When I lost the weight, I was happy and proud of myself because I knew it was a big accomplishment to lose that much weight. And I knew I wanted to be in this business and it wasn’t healthy. My dad is diabetic, and I knew it was something I was prone to. It was a real big decision on my part to take it down a notch and make sure I stayed as healthy as I could.”</p></blockquote>
<p><span id="more-1639"></span>Now, Maria looks picture-perfect when we see her on the television or on the red carpet.  She keeps herself fit and has learned to live a more healthy lifestyle:</p>
<blockquote><p>“I think we all obsess so much, and you’re going to deprive yourself? For what? You’re supposed to enjoy yourself. The week after, just take it easy. Eat some fresh salads and fresh fruit. Replenish yourself with good, healthy alternatives for a week afterward and you’ll be fine. Take a long walk after dinner. Do something like that. I never stress about it.”</p></blockquote>
