Nicole Richie has had many labels over the years; reality star, socialite, Paris Hilton’s enemy, anorexic, fashion designer, and now she’s the happy mother of two. These days she sports a sophisticated style, a motherly calm and according to the tabloids, a curvy figure. Well, she doesn’t necessarily look curvy but it’s a far cry from her bony frame back in 2006 (see picture on right).
In next month’s British Marie Claire (see picture on left), Nicole denies that she ever had an eating disorder. She said,

“I felt it was a little unfair to say someone has an eating disorder when they don’t,” she says. “It’s extremely insulting and irresponsible. An eating disorder is serious and it’s a disease.”

However, in 2006 in an interview with Vanity Fair she acknowledged the fact that she was too thin and she didn’t like it. Perhaps she’s trying to keep those old skeletons in the closet as she has reinvented herself as a level-head Hollywood celebrity who runs a fashion line, develops sitcoms, has babies, etc..

Did you know that Greys Anatomy star Katherine Heigl wanted to be super skinny and look like Nicole Richie?

The 30-year-old actress, who has just recently adopted a 10-month-old Korean baby with husband singer Josh Kelley, hates dieting because she loves food too much and describes it as her “obsession”.

In 2007, the star was, however, on celeb trainer Harley Pasternak’s 5 Factor Diet, while her 5-day workout of 25-50 minutes of cardio and circuit training helped get her in shape for Knocked Up.

“My own insecurity makes me want to look like Nicole Richie,” she told Now magazine recently. “But I’m 5ft 9ins, and have substantial breasts, hips and everything else, so it’s never going to happen.

Instead, the new mother concentrates on being a good role model for her young viewers.

“What stops me is that I want young girls to look at me and think: ‘That’s healthy, that’s what I want – she’s on television and she looks like me’.”

Sinking to a new low for ratings, New York Post’s Page Six is reporting that Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton will be camp counselors at a “fat camp” for their upcoming, 4th season of the Simple Life.

Reps for the E! show position the camp for overweight kids as a “wellness camp focused on eating right, yoga, nutrition and exercise.” Nicole Richie’s reported use of Adderall for weight loss, and Paris Hilton’s hard partying ways hardly qualify them as “wellness” counselors or role models. I don’t think that these kids are so gullible and have a feeling they will see right through them. Ironically these two starlets are probably in greater need of dietary counseling than any of the campers. Hopefully they will pick up some healthy eating habits themselves.

According to In Touch Weekly, Nicole Richie is using Adderall for weight loss. Adderall, a prescription drug in the same family as crystal meth or “speed”, is typically used for attention deficit disorder but is also an appetite suppressant.

“She loves Adderall because she stays awake, and it makes her not want to eat,” says a close pal. “And she takes it even more when she’s filming.”

Adderall is a short-term fix; once off the drug, users quickly gain the weight back. It is also highly addictive and users develop tolerance requiring increasing doses to maintain effect. Not surprisingly, a pal says Nicole increased her dosage of Adderall: “She’s taking more and more lately.”
