Newsweek has finally investigated the matter to determine that some of Oprah’s ideas and her guests’ ideas are just down-right outlandish, impractical or unhealthy. Oprah’s campaign to ‘Live Your Best Life Ever’ is finally being questioned. There was only a small portion of the article that actually agreed with Oprah’s philosophy and that was on diet and exercise:

“Right about now is when you might be asking, is there anything Oprah gets right? In fact, there is. For one, she gives excellent diet and fitness tips. Two of her longest-serving resident experts, Dr. Mehmet Oz and trainer Bob Greene, routinely offer sound, high-quality advice to Oprah and her audience on how to lose weight and improve overall health. For the most part, it is free of the usual diet-industry hype, perhaps because so many of her viewers are on to those scams by now. Oz’s and Greene’s philosophy amounts to: eat nutritious foods, and exercise.”

However, it’s not new news that people should eat nutritious foods and exercise. What’s more interesting is that Oprah earns millions of dollars a year but can’t seem to get her own weight under control but yet we still listen to her as if she is the all-knowing Oprah.

In May, Oprah Winfrey announced on her show that her website was going to offer a downloadable coupon for two pieces of grilled chicken, two sides and a biscuit from KFC. After all of the shows where she has guest nutritionists, doctors, trainers and chefs all educating her audience on leading a healthy lifestyle it’s a shame that she decided to promote a greasy fast food chain like KFC.

Of course one would say she’s promoting the ‘healthy’ meal because it’s grilled chicken and not deep fried, but one must also consider the calories in the two sides and two biscuits. Apart from the calories, think of the likelihood that those who downloaded the coupons, for example housewives, probably ran to KFC, got the ‘healthy’ meal but then the husband and kids probably got a bucket of deep fried chicken.

Something else to think about is the fact that Oprah is on the heavy side these days, so should she be eating biscuits? Here’s the breakdown of calories for the free meal in the above photo:

-Grilled Chicken: 260

-Cole Slaw: 190

-Mashed Potatoes and Gray: 130

-Biscuit: 190

GRAND TOTAL: 770 Calories

As for those downloadable coupons, one store in NYC actually ran out of chicken. A spokesperson for KFC said that the combination of a sagging economy and Oprah’s sacred word created a ‘perfect storm’ for the chicken run.

Why doesn’t Oprah offer coupons on her site for a vitamin company, or for the Whole Foods Market chain? If she’s going to pass out freebies on the internet it would be nice if it were for the better good of her audience’s health and not to further ignite the obesity problems in the USA.

Kirstie Alley has put back on all of that weight she dropped a few years ago. We saw her commercials for Jenny Craig and her bikini baring days on the Oprah show back in 2007 when she looked like the Kirstie we remember from Cheers and Look Who’s Talking. Now, she has blossomed again and had another chat with Oprah saying she’s ready to lose the weight once again. A little confusing isn’t it? Here’s what she told Oprah about her weight loss woes:

“I think the biggest thing for me was that I had all of these people that I inspired and then I let them down…My whole life I battled with 15 to 20 pounds, I either weighed 125 or 145, oh!… 125 or 145, you know, like wow. Then, when I gained weight the last time I honest to god thought, ‘This is it, this is the last time I’ll ever do this.’”

When Oprah asked about all of the fitness equipment she had in her living room during their last interview Kirstie chuckled and said she had moved it all out and turned the area into a dining room. She continues on,

“One thing I’ve done over the past year and a half is research and design my own weight loss line and I’ve actually lost 20 pounds in the last five weeks doing that.”

When Oprah asked how she lost that much weight so quickly Kirstie wasn’t ready to reveal her secret. We’ll have to wait a year until we find out! As for now, Kirstie will do her own exercise and diet plan and in a year maybe we’ll see her in yet another bikini.
