The British actor and comedian Ricky Gervais was traditionally the chubby guy in all of his roles. But these days as his fame is growing in Hollywood it appears he is catching on to the show biz lifestyle and learning to drop the pounds. This week while at the Toronto International Film Festival you can see in the above photo at the right that he has slimmed down considerably since April (the photo on the left). The 48-year-old was in Toronto to promote his current movie The Invention of Lying, which he co-wrote, directed and starred in. Last year he was quoted saying,

“I don’t think there’s enough stigma. I laugh about being fat but I should be ashamed.”

Like other originally chubby stars like Seth Rogen and Marissa Jaret Winokur, Ricky is focusing on getting slim and healthy. Although, Ricky does still keep his humor about weight; when asked if he found co-star Rob Lowe to be attractive, he replied,

“Yeah, I’m jealous – his jaw line is ridiculous. It is like a cartoon it is [Lowe's chiseled chin] too pointy, honestly. I think that is passe, I think fat faces are in.”

With a fat face or a chiseled chin Gervais is looking good these days. He looks much healthier and stronger and surely he feels better too.

Ricky Gervais, the British comedian and actor is known for his witty humor on the BBC version of The Office, and more recently his movie with Greg Kinnear titled Ghost Town where he plays a stumbling and inept dentist.  Even though he won’t be winning any Sexist Man Alive contests anytime soon he’s definitely a celebrity that’s climbing the ranks in Hollywood.  Ricky does try and watch his weight, the tubby star admitted to The Observer Food Monthly that what you see is what you get and that he will never be ultra-fit because quite simply, he likes to eat.

“I’m fat because I eat too much and I’d rather not give up food,” he says. “It’s not glandular, it’s greed.”

The 47-year-old had a gym installed in his New York City apartment and reportedly works out every day so that at least he won’t get any bigger.

“If I didn’t work out I’d still eat as much but instead of being probably 20 pounds overweight, I would be 40 pounds overweight,” he tells The Observer Food Monthly.  ”I don’t think a comedian should be worried about their weight.”
