She eats healthily, exercises regularly, and avoids stress. She says the older she’s gotten the more she’s learned to stop stressing about the future, because it only causes wrinkles. As <em>Prevention </em>magazine’s April cover girl, she shares her fitness and diet tips.<span id="more-9394"></span></p>
<p>Because she’s got kids, Vanessa often finds herself making pancakes, waffles and French toast, but she knows to not stuff herself and simply cuts down on the portions. The mother-of-three was one of the few actresses who took an early liking to Pilates before most people even knew what it was.  She says by working out with her trainer, Mari Winsor, she’s developed a very strong core.</p>
<p>Vanessa, however, also realizes the importance of weight training. The former Miss America adds strength training to her usual workouts to add definition to her body – she says Pilates, cardio and yoga can only get you so far. When she feels like she’s in a rut or needs some fresh air from her usual routine, she hikes in the hilly area of her neighborhood. She even sometimes takes a pet with her to create an interval workout.</p>
<p>Dance is another way to shake things up, literally. Vanessa has learned that salsa is a great cardio workout she can alternate with her three-day-a-week treadmill routine. But her biggest asset is knowing that she’s a 47-year-old mother-of-three and is realistic about her weight these days. She’ll never have washboard abs, but she is healthy and in great shape.</p>

<p>In the January issue of<em> Shape</em> magazine, the <a href="http://www.celebritydietdoctor.com/ugly-betty-weight-loss/">Ugly Betty</a> star <a href="http://www.celebritydietdoctor.com/vanessa-williams-diet-tips/">Vanessa Williams</a> talks fitness and fashion. The mother of four looks flawless but she evidently works hard in order to keep that great body and glowing skin.  When asked about her exercise plan Vanessa explained that she has a personal trainer and will try to lift weights once or twice a week. If she&#8217;s not in training she will hit the treadmill, do some occasional yoga and also salsa dancing.  She advised readers,<span id="more-7975"></span></p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;I would definitely recommend salsa for anyone who wants to hang out with friends, have a ball, and lose weight.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>As for her diet Vanessa suggested to eat only fresh food.  She said,</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Try to steer away from anything that&#8217;s pre-packaged, canned or processed.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>She did admit that she gets tempted sometimes but has to listen to that little voice in her head that reminds her that if she eats too much she&#8217;ll be paying for it in a few days time.</p>

<p>The mother of four said that for her the most important thing she can do is exercise because even though she knows she&#8217;s getting older exercise is what will make her look her best.  She said,</p>

<p>How does Williams stay fit?  Three times a week she does weight training and cardio sessions with personal trainer, Sal Gaglio and she also does yoga and a fun salsa workout called, <em>Zumba</em>.</p>
<p>Williams recently released her eighth studio album and she&#8217;ll be back for the next season of Ugly Betty which premieres on October 16th.</p>
