Extreme circumstances call for extreme measures, but would you subject yourself to a very low-calorie diet of between just 500 and 800 calories a day? Samantha Clowe, a 34-year-old British woman, died suddenly from a previously undiagnosed heart condition while she was on a Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) called Lighter Life where she was consuming 530 calories a day. British pet care company Bob Martin put their theory to the test that owning a dog is more effective at motivating you to get some exercise than having a personal trainer. After speaking to 5 000 Britons – 3 000 of which are dig owners – the company learned that 57% saw walking a dog as their main form of exercise. Only 22% saw talking their pet for its daily walk as a chore compared to 70% who thought of going to gym as a chore. More than 75% admitted they would rather take their dog for a hike or walk than go to gym.
