The inside skinny... on The Cookie Monster’s New Diet
The Cookie Monster’s New Diet
by Betsy on Celebs
The Cookie Monster has become a hot topic on The View this week because of the recent public service announcement (PSA) that the he and the Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack have released that promotes healthy eating. The lovable blue monster who once scarfed down yummy cookies has been on a ‘diet’ as of late and is now seen eating healthy foods like broccoli and carrots and doesn’t scarf down as many cookies as he used to.
Some of the co-hosts felt that the Cookie Monster should not be used to promote healthy eating because he’s simply a puppet for entertainment and not causing children to rush to the cookie jar and stuff their faces. Whereas others on the show felt he should set a good example for the small children that watch the program because there are some parents who don’t control their own children’s eating habits.
It’s sad to think that Sesame Street is having to change the personality of one of the original Jim Henson puppets, or that they even feel pressured to do so because of the sky rocketing percentage of obese kids in the US. Surely the other images that children see on television such as advertisements for fast food, sugary cereal and candy bars are doing much more harm than the Cookie Monster; the furry blue puppet that even makes us adults laugh when he gobbles up his tasty cookies.
